Generally VWs are good cars. I presently own a 2000 Jetta I just love it. Even-though I'm a vw owner I think the combination year and mileage doesn't add up to $6000. Try to get it cheaper you won't regret it.

Is that £ or $? does sound a bit expensive given mileage/age, altho vw being german it should run forever.
i had an old vw golf last year, was 1992 and had done similar mileage, was fine commuting to work and would happily cruise down the motorway at 90. even better it still ran absoluetly fine after i had a crash albeit with passenger door/side and front wing mangled.

Does the car have an automatic? If so be careful that trans tends to go out and cost $$$$$$$
