You need a passport to get a visa. You generally have to bring or mail the passport to the embassy (or consulate) of the country you are seeking a visa from. A travel agency can help you with this, if you are going through an agent.

You could probably check on-line for how to do this, assuming the country has a webpage, but I really do not know.

A passport and a visa is 2 different thing. A passport is a document that show what ur nationality is and everyone should be able to get one if u apply in your country. A visa is a stamp in your passport that u MAY need to travel to other countries.

To enter Mexico or Canada all you need is a form of ID and no travel documents, I know cause I've been to both countries with only a drivers license and have not had any problems. For the other countries you probably need a passport and a visa unless it is a country that participates in the Visa Waiver Pilot Program.

Buena suerte

If you live in US, and want to travel to Mexico or Canada you only need a Passport and no Visa. No wait you don't even need a passport for Canada, but why would anybody want to go to Canada hehee!!!
The passport is issued by your country, the visa is issued to where you are going, the visa is either stamped or pasted (glued) onto the passport so yeah you will very likely need a passport...

A passport is a travel document that is issued by the authorities of different states to citizens of that country. For example the UKPA issues passports to British Citizens and British Subjects, the French Government issues passports to French Citizens etc...
A visa is another word for Entry Clearance. Not everyone requires a visa to travel to a different nation for example a British Citizen doesn't require a visa to travel to any EU country or any of the Americas (North and South America). However a citizen of America requires a visa to travel to Brazil. Basically this means that is you have a US passport, you need to obtain permission for the Brazilian consulate before you travel to Brazil.

The conclusion is that whether or not you require a visa or not depend on your nationality and the country of your destination.

Assuming you are in the UK and a British citizen you cannot travel overseas without a passport. Whether you need a visa too depends on which country you intend on visiting.

Coming into the UK, you will need a passport from your home nation and depending on where you are coming from, a visa too.

You need a passport to travel abroad. This is your personal identification document and is very important. For some contries you need visa as well, it depend on the country u come from and the policy of the country you are going to. You apply and receive a visa from the embassy of the country u are going to, not from ur own goverment.

A passport is an internationally recognized travel document that verifies the identity and nationality of the bearer. A valid U.S. passport is required to enter and leave most foreign countries. Only the U.S. Department of State has the authority to grant, issue or verify United States passports.

a visa is an endorsement or stamp placed by officials of a foreign country on a U.S. passport that allows the bearer to visit that foreign country.

If a visa is required, obtain it from the appropriate foreign consular representative before proceeding abroad. Allow sufficient time for processing your visa application, especially if you are applying by mail. Most foreign consular representatives are located in principal cities, and in many instances, a traveler may be required to obtain visas from the consular office in the area of his/her residence. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE TRAVELER TO OBTAIN VISAS, WHERE REQUIRED, FROM THE APPROPRIATE EMBASSY OR NEAREST CONSULATE OF THE COUNTRY YOU ARE PLANNING TO VISIT.

As soon as you receive your visa, check it to make sure no mistakes were made. Processing and visa fees vary, and most fees may not be refundable. For specific details, consult the Embassy or Consulate of the country you plan to visit.

passport is like a permit of your country for you to travel abroad, while a visa is the license or the permission of the country which you want to enter, so it does not necessarily mean that if you have a passport you will be granted a visa
