Almost everyone wishes they were different in some way: tall people want to be shorter, and shorter people taller; heavy people thinner, and thinner people more curvy or muscular; women with poker-straight hair want curly, and women with curly hair want poker-straight hair. I could go on (it really is always something!), but you get the idea. The grass always seems greener on the other side.

As a petite (5'-3") flower myself, I can tell you that the only thing I think you're missing being as tall as you are is the ability to date shorter men without towering over them and/or making them feel short/silly/whatever (of course, this doesn't apply to all short men, so please spare me the criticism. I'm speaking generally...). And there are advantages, even in addition to the obvious ones already mentioned (being able to reach things on high shelves, carrying weight better/looking better in clothes): for instance, women I know have noticed that taller ones seem to have an easier time with their pregnancies and deliveries than their shorter brethren (I don't know whether there's any scientific evidence to back this up; it's simply an anecdotal observation).

Really, you might as well embrace this quality, which is part of what makes you **you**.

At 17 you shouldnt be growing any taller. Most girls stop growing at the age of 14. If you are still growing you might want to go see a doctor about it. 5'8" is tall but not to tall. Look at it this way at least when you get old and start to shrink you wont end up being a short little butter ball.

Hi! You are definitely NOT too tall! I'm also tall (about the same height as you, but I am an adult), and I know it can be difficult to be the tallest girl in your class, etc. But 5'8" isn't that tall, and when you are an adult you will not feel that tall. There isn't anything you can do to stop growing, but as a female, you are about finished growing anyway (females stop gaining height at about age 18). So my advice is, try not to slouch, hold your head high, and enjoy being tall! It is beautiful - you can weigh more while still looking slim, you can wear things that overwhelm petite people, and if you can avoid slouching, you will look confident and poised as a tall person. I am almost 5'8" myself, and I wear heels, platforms, etc. - I'm taller than my husband when I wear heels, and he loves my long, lean look - it doesn't bother him one bit that I'm tall! :)
Good luck!!

my daughter is 13 and she is 5' 9" already. She has been The tallest or one of the tallest girls in her class since day one. Only since this year have some girls and many boys caught up with her. She is strong and healthy, and carries herself straight and comfortably.

you are NOT too tall. You are as tall as you are supposed to be.
Girls typically slow or stop growing in their teens... boys can continue growing for several more years.

If you are concerned about your appearance, the best thing you can do is be healthy and carry yourself straight and confident. Wear clothes appropriate to your body size and your age.

I had a friend who was tall and beautiful, but she slouched so much because she was self-conscious and didn't wear clothes the right size so she looked painfully awkward.

Clothes seem to be designed more for women on the taller side... I am not quite petite but shorter than average and nothing ever fits exactly right.

Taller women are taken more seriously in the work-place and tend to garner more respect (because literally people have to look up to them!)

And remember, every time you easily reach something on the top shelf, there are many of us out here dragging chairs and climbing up on things (or calling their taller friends for help!) because we were not blessed with those crucial few more inches!!

Don't do anything to stop growing!!! Don't damage your body or your health!

Look for the positives and work hard at being comfortable in your body. In a couple of years you will absolutely feel differently about this.

Best to you!

Wow why would you want to stop growing. Actually you probably have reached your ultimate height at 17 but this is an attribute not something to be ashamed of you could model with your height there are people who would give their high teeth for your long limbs - be happy tall and beautiful lucky you!

5'8" too tall! Brother please! I am 28 and 5'8" tall. Unless you are from Japan, 5'8" is not tall the average height for a male in the US is 5'10", I don't think there is a way to stop growing anyway, but if there was why would you?

Why do you want to stop growing be proud of how tall you are. I'm only 16 and am 5'9. I use my height to my advantage. I am an excellent basketball player and i have been offered a model career. Don't think of it as a bother. Love it and use it

Don't complain, those of us that are built close to the ground envy you at 5'8. You can wear just about anything. Embrace your height maybe now all the guys around you are shorter but give it time and you'll be looking most of them in the eye or up towards them.

I don't think you are too tall. I was 5'8" when I was 12. At times being tall sucks, however, I wouldn't change my height for the world.
