Lets say you are on a 4 lane road. A school bus has stopped (let's call this lane 1) . I know that the car going in the same direction (lane 1) behind the bus has to stop and the remaining car in the other lane (lane 2) going the same direction has to stop. Also the car going the opposite direction (in lane 3) has to stop. What of if you are in the outer 4th lane? Do you have to stop? I come across this everyonce in awhile when I am in this lane. I stop, but a lot of people who are behind me get pissed and start honking. What is the law? Please no disrespectful answers! Thanks!

Oh yes, it is the best thing to stop even if people are honking at you. It is better to be safe than sorry.

Oh, I am not talking about a 4 lane highway. I am talking about a 4 lane road right outside my apartment complex that there is a school bus on.

By law all 4 lanes must stop for a stopped school bus.

you are right to stop. Let me try and understand this you are in the far lane from the bus and going the same direction, the bus has stopped to pick up or drop off kids. By law you have to stop don't worry about the people behind you they are wrong just stop and let the people get mad you are doing the right thing.
The law states that if there is a school bus with flashing lights (dropping off or picking up kids) then you have to stop unless there is a raised center mediean between the bus and you.

Different states have different laws. Buses typically don't drop kids off on the opposite side of a 4 lane highway but nonetheless if they do would you like to be the one to hit that 5 year old and seriously injure them. I didn't think so. Just stop and forget about the people behind you. They will get over it.

Every state I have been in every lane in both direction are required to stop.
Let them honk, just remember to be honked at than live with the possibility of or the memory that you hurt or killed a child

Don't fall to the pressures of a blowing horn stop even if it's not the law because you don't want to be the one to hit a child.
