The best "diet" is to eat less food, healthy food and exercise regularly. Any health expert will tell you the same, and it works.

The Atkins diet sort of works. The body uses more calories to convert fat into energy. However the body uses the more accessible carbohydrates in the liver and muscles first. The Atkins diet reduces your body's carbohydrates stores, forcing it to rely on energy drawn from fat.
It does make you lose weight but I wouldn't consider it a healthy option. The weight is likely to return if you come off the diet and I wouldn't recommend sticking to a high fat/ low carbohydrate diet long term.

The Atkins diet absolutely works! I lost an enormous amount of weight about 6 years ago and I've kept it all off with no trouble. On a long term basis, it might not be a good diet but there's far more risk to keeping the extra weight on.

The atkins diet works but the problem is you need to change your lifestyle to keep the weight off. I weighed 245 lbs and am 6' even 72" I used aerobic exercise and atkins to get down to 175 It took me 1 year to lose 45 lbs and about 2 years to lose the other 25, 3 years. First of all before you get on atkins I suggest you go to your doctor and get a physical and stress test. Make sure they check you for high cholesterol, diabetes and your blood pressure and no problem with arteroschlerosis. If you are healthy, and you are overweight. You need to review everything you are eating. Many processed foods, look at the labels have a lot of sugar and carbohydrates. also some vegetables and fruits also have high concentration and milk have a lot of carbs. Bad news is this is what I did: for drinking, I only drink water, coffee, tea, no soda and very little juice (too much sugar). For food I eat more protein and fats then carbohydrates. for the last 3 years I have avoided the following Milk, White Bread, Fruit juices, Soda, Potatoes, Rice, Pasta, Ice cream, Pastries, Cake, Pies and a lot of fruit such as bananas, Guava, Oranges also Sauces such as Pasta sauce Steak sauce and Sala dressing usually contain sugar. Ingredients you want to avoid are sugar, carbohydrates, and "high frustose corn syrup" - very bad but also avoid trans fat
If you drink coffee do not use sugar or milk use Splenda as a sweetner.
I eat mainly Fish especially Salmon, Low-fat meat, Chicken, Cheese especially cottage cheese, Eggs, Vegetables including Tomato, Broccoli, Asparagus, High Fiber Bread and small glasses of Orange Juice. In addition I do aerobic exercise but not really vigorous, usually long walks with my dogs

Good Luck

I knew a person who actually put weight on (a stone) on the Atkins diet. You see, what this person probably didn't realise is that if you take in more calories than what you need, you can still put on weight. Calories are calories, whether they come from proteins, carbohydrates or fats. If, let's say your calorific need per day is 2000 calories and you take in 220 every day then, over time, you will put on weight (even if all those calories were just fats and proteins and you avoided the evil carbs). Just eat in moderation, a good and well-balanced diet poor in sugars and fats.

The Atkins diet works because by eating mainly meat you feel less hungry and therefore eat less. So in the sense of pure weight loss, YES it does work.

If however you constantly each nothing but meat, you probably aren't going to live a very long life - you need to balance things out. So in that sense, NO it doesn't.

Hope this helps.

I am repeating myself again giving the same answer every time there is a question about diet or how to lose weight.
Simply following the simple rules of Physics(Thermodynamics) and without changing your eating habits, within a year you can lose more than two stones.

How???
Drinking every day at least 2 lit of cold water.

The secret is simple. Depends on Physics. Thermodynamics.
1 mlt requires 1 cal to differentiate the temperature by 1 deg.
2 lit = 2000 mlt (cold water) in order to come into balance from 5 deg into 36 deg (body temp, difference 31 deg), requires, 62000 cal.
if your daily intake in calories is about 2000-3000 cal(normal ratio), then the rest calories will be from "burning fat".
Of course it helps more, if you reduce chocolates and sugars.
I have tried it and lost within 10 months 28 kgs.

Try it , you have nothing to loose.....:)

If done correctly, all diets are good, it teaches you to eat in moderation and helps you choose the correct foods. What happens with most diets is people go overboard, changing bad habits too quickly and getting bored with the diet or getting mad because they are not seeing the results fast enough.

The theory to live by is that it is a lifestyle change, it takes a while to master, and the important thing is that you stick with it, for life. I did the Nutrisystem plan and did well, and it taught me alot.

Atkins can be very dangerous. There are no gimmick diets to lose weight. It is just hard work of lots of exercise & a low fat, lower calorie diet. Weight Watchers also is excellent in helping one determine what foods are better to eat.

Im on the makers diet phase 1 and have lost 55 lbs in 4 months , the plan is similar to atkins but stresses organic and detoxification routines , not eating a lot of meat or cheese but healthy meals like a chicken salad , salmon and asparagus and broccoli , chicken soup minus carrots and potatoes, hot cerael made from flax meal has 0 carbs. dream fields pasta 5 carbs per srving, at vivalowcarb.com you can by zero carb bread and bagels, stay away from artificial sweetners except for a sugar free traet now and then, i was losing 2lbs a week untill i went organic on meat and dairy , that cuts the fat down some and gets rid of the hormones found in meat and dairy that slow weight loss, (and cause weight gain in non dieters) low fat vegetarian doesnt work for everyone as per the answer above i gained 40 lbs yrs back by going vegetarion, my body converts all that fruit and rice carbs to fat. not have i been steadely losing weight , the suggustions in the makers diet has made my hair shiny and my eyes and skin glowing! and i have tons of energy! i dont reccomend the atkins plan per say but a healthy low carb plan. you only have to count net carbs. net carbs are the affect carbs have on your blood sugar you look at the carbs on the back of a package subtract the fiber = net carb broccoli 7 carbs- 4 grams fiber = 3 net carbs. my typcal day is
breakfast zero carb bagel and organic cream cheese
snack 1/2 cup organic strawberries
lunch organic chicken sandwich lettice tomatoe mayo on zero carb bread
snack celery and cream cheese
dinner , grilled organic steak , romaine salad , broccoli and cheese , mashed cauliflower.
desert 1/2 of low carb ice cream
and i do not leave out coffee. i use organic cream and coffee and a tad bit of splenda.
by going mostly organic you will be eliminating over 700 chemicles they put in our food , and hormones. and your body will detox and your skin will get radient.
also do a colon cleanse both internal and external.
good luck i hope that helped.

When I was diagnosed with Diabetes, I had to cut a lot of the crap out of my diet - snacks, sweets, crisps, cut down on the takeaways and the beer. That was all - I didn't go on any special 'named' diet, just thought more sensibly about what I was eating. I lost shedloads of weight, quite quickly.
