silk paint was already on when we moved in recently and i have been told that if you paint your walls with silk paint (although it is lovely and shiny and very easy to wipe clean) it makes tiny dints/holes in the wall look like really noticable dirty marks...is this true?

So you're going to be painting over the silk paint this weekend? I would take the time to clean the walls, fill in the imperfections, and prime properly. The question is really what kind of paint should you replace it with? Well, satin and gloss give a simular affect as silk and semi-gloss will hide things a little better. Flat really hides imperfections, but even the kind that claims you can wipe it or clean it comes off, a little at a time when you are doing so. It all has to do with what you like. Do you like the color of the silk paint? Do you like the affect it has on the walls? Do the little pit spots really bug you or are you the only one who notices them? It's just paint. Have fun with it.

It does make the dents more noticeable especially in artificial light. I have to recommend Dulux 10x stronger matt which is wipe clean but doesn't show the same dents. If your walls are in good shape and newly plaster/skimmed silk paint is fine. Also Silk is good if its a small room as it reflects the light better. Hope this helps

Silk paint is very unforgiving if there are any imperfections on the walls. Matt is far better if you want a nice even finish, just make sure you put on an undercoat first.

First I would fill in any nail holes or cracks.
Sand any rough spots lightly to a smooth finish.
On smooth surfaces such as walls or doors use a mild detergent and warm water applied with a rag or sponge and give the walls a good clean before paining.

Have fun!!!

That's possible but it is very difficult to paint matt over silk. You will need to sand it foirst if you decide to.
