For centuries, the only safe haven for homosexuals was the priesthood, where no one would question your desire to not marry and be cloistered with other like minded men. The fact that homosexuality doesn't carry the stigma it once did is why the priesthood is now having an inability to recruit enough priests to carry on the fraud that is religion.

Catholicism does seem to attract or produce both homosexual men and lesbian women. I haven't seen any numbers on it, but I do get the feeling that they're higher than for the general population (though not dramatically so).
I don't see that in Protestant religions, though, and I'm not sure where you're getting that idea.
As far as "getting away" with it, I think that the Catholics are quite a bit more concerned with their pedophilia problem. In addition, the Catholic Church has some excellent practices for effectively sweeping problems under the rug. Any large institution needs such practices if it is to persist in the long run, and of course the Catholic Church is the model for "large and persistent". If it's possible to get away with something, they will.

I really think you're judging the priests without getting to know them (Judge only if you yourself wish to be judged). However, that being said, I think you're confused as to the situation here. For example, say there is a homosexual man anywhere, and not neccesarily in the priesthood. If that man does not engage in any homosexual acts then he is committing no sin. So, priests have taken an oath to step back from sexual relations and such forth, therefore them being homosexual is not a problem.
However, I do disagree with the church's view and they shouldn't view homosexuality as evil and sinful, they need to update themselves and move on with the times.

Nowadays, religious leaders tickle people’s ears by saying that sex outside of marriage may be acceptable to God. Others condone homosexual acts.
In fact, some clerics are themselves actively homosexual.
An article in the British newspaper The Times stated that “thirteen openly gay clergy” have been elected to the General Synod of the Church of England.
When church leaders abandon Bible morality and their churches do little about it, what standards should their parishioners adopt? It is little wonder that millions are thoroughly confused.

1 I don't think it's respectful to call priests "girly".
2. Some gay priests use the Church as a cop-out from dealing with the issue of their latent sexual orientation
3. Gay men are often very caring and gentle
4. This question is too much of a sweeping statement and lacks insight into issues of sprituality & sexuality

There are undoubtedly some homosexual clergy, but you may, in some cases, be mistaking the characteristics of meekness, humility, and personal sensitivity, which are common traits of all good clergy, for homosexuality.
Short of discovering direct evidence, we have no choice but to be charitable and non-judgmental in these cases.
Otherwise, we're going to have another "witch hunt".
And there's certainly no sin in having homosexual tendencies ... sin attaches only when acting on those tendencies.

Homosexuality is not evil. Homosexual activity is a sin, but then heterosexuals also sin (for instance, if they have more than one sexual partner in their lifetime). All sin can be forgiven (bar one).. Christianity welcomes everybody because God sent Jesus to give everybody a way into Eternal Life.

I dont think there is much of that going on with the Protestants, as for the Catholics its not normal for a man not to have sex, maybe if they would cut the crap and let them marry they would leave the alter boys along.
Oh by the way im a minister and im on my second wife happily married and a great sex life.
Praise God

They must have broke their vows of being celibates. Such sinfulness behaviour comes with a dirty mind, the evil spirits and temptation are strong confronted by ignorance.
Such people with these vocations, must learn first that the pleasures of the body is never to takeover their spiritual promise.
Other wise they should leave their vocation, to avoid humiliation of themselves.
