We don't. I believe Jesus had dark brown hair, olive skin, and brown eyes.
My mom has a painting that is a representation of Jesus praying at Gethsemane. He has long dark brown hair, bronze skin, and brown eyes.

Look at any Arab man living in the Middle East and you will see a Jesus (Joshua Ben Joseph) lookalike. As he was a Hebrew and one of the 7 tribes of Israel he would have had the same features as a modern day Arab. European Churches depicted him in their image to fit in with their concept of being the one true religion and could not accept that maybe he looked Saracen??.
The Jews of Israel today are of mixed race many coming from Europe and America, from an ancestral background going back many centuries outwith Israel. Jesus was a prophet and is respected by Islam as such, Islam does not recognise the Trinity. The Bible is not like the Qu'aran it is a historical document with many references to actual historical events and open to individual interpretation.
My father said on many occasions during WWII that many so called atheists began to pray just as he did when the rounds started coming in, so lets hope those claiming to be Atheist are not tested.

First of all as there were no cameras back then. I think a safe assumption would be that the picture to which you are referring is the "standard Jesus" picture that almost all Christians have in their home or church. If that is the case then guess what, it is someones interpretation of how Jesus looked!!He was born in what is interestingly enough believed to be modern day Iraq. lf that is factual it would then stand to reason that he had dark hair, dark skin, and brown eyes. Since the only people that ever saw him face to face are all dead we won't ever really know what Jesus looked like when he was on earth.

This is an awesome question because 'the powers that be' made images of Yeshua with white hair and blue eyes as a political move to keep the 'Original Jews' from their history as God's chosen people. I have read the previous responses and found it amusing that none of them used biblical scripture as a reference. In the book of Revelation there is a description verses 1:14-16 and I quote, "The hair on his head was white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. 15 His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters. 16 In his right hand he held seven stars, and coming out of his mouth was a sharp, double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance." Forgive me if I misinterpreted the scripture but I have NEVER seen an Arabian, Caucausian, Indian, or Chinese person with hair of wool. Curly maybe but not wool. We all know what race of people have wooly hair....case rested.

He was given pale skin and blue eyes to fit with the times. Could you honestly see people worshipping a "coloured" individual in past times?

He didnt, He has dark hair and complection typical of semetic people. He did not have long hair either, as long hair was seen as unslightly in the jewish faith. The blond hair etc stems from ancient babylon. The whore- Semiramus had a son, called damu, which means blood. She forced all to see him as the promised one sent by God to save us, however, was indeed a falsehood, set by her to cement her power. She had long blond hair as did he. This is also rife in catholicism in iconography that has its roots in satans babylonian system. The real truth came from the tribe of Yehuda in the shape of Yeshua HaMoshiach, Jesus the messiah.

Don't be silly now!
Jesus' mother was Hebrew & so Jesus would have had her features (brown eyes etc)
It is God/Yahweh/Jehovah who should be worshiped not Jesus.
Jesus died for us to have the chance of what Adam lost for us (everlasting life & a clean conscience with God). He gave his life that we may have these things but he should not be worshiped.
Jesus is the mediator between God and man
A mediator cannot be one of the two parties, it must be a separate person entirely

I never have seen Jesus as a blue eyed blond. In fact, my favourite picture of Him is from Kenya. He is sitting with His disciples at the last supper and they all look like East Africans.

Because the Europeans who spread christianity knew that the masses wouldn't accept a person with dark hair, olive skin, and dark eyes as the son of god.
Another example of man creating god

Artistic conventions reflect cultural prejudices not true to life representations, hence west Europeans wanted to see a west European Jesus.
