hijab means modesty. Both men and women are supposed to adhere to it. Its not just a Muslim thing either. Jewsih women also have to dress modestly and cover their hair strictly speaking.
Men and women are totally different and therefore different rules apply.

I dont get why people are passing comments about muslim men not being able to control themselves.
What about all the rape and sexual harrasment thats even more prominent in western society?

A man has to cover from his belly button to his knees and a women has to cover everything except the hand and face.

Hijab makes all women equal in the eyes of men and elliminates suerficial attraction.
the Quraan saws that men should lower their gaze and not perv on women in the first place.
The meaning and purpose behind hijab is not just about physical attraction either.
it is about equality and modesty.
People need to look past the physical constraint to see the true meaning and intention of the practice.

Jack Straw and Tony Blair think that veils should be banished outright, why do other faiths have to find everything wrong in Islam, Islam is a great religion and it will remain great despite all the commotions you Christians and Jews make. Allah has ordered that women should hide their private parts and the veil helps the Muslim woman from the greedy eyes of the men

first of where in the Qu'ran does it speak of Hijab?. Hijab means modesty. and how come u dont know that men are commanded to have a Hijab too?. their first Hijab is "LOWER THE GAZE".

anyways with Qu'ranic proofs--
An-Noor | 64 verses | The Light سورة النور
Sura #24 | Madina
30 Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and be modest. That is purer for them. Lo! Allah is aware of what they do.

when u look at a bunch of women wearing Hijab or men with beards and cap, then to most people the first word that comes to their mind will be --OPRESSION. but look at them carefully.

can u tell me among them -- who is rich or from a wealthy class. no they all will look EQUAL. irrespective of men/women, rich/poor, young/old -- they all look equal. this is a way to keep virtues like -- pride and arrogance -- in control and to overcome them. it all comes down to one basic fact --SIMPLICITY.

it is the simplicity of Islam. we muslims beleive that we came empty handed and will leave the world empty handed. Allah has ordered us to live a very simple life and not to hoard any wealth. for on the Day of Judgement, wealth is of no avail but GOOD DEEDS WILL HELP. it is the same reason of simplicity and modesty that women wear Hijab too.

having the beard was the custom of the prophets and some of the customs are obligatory. btw, my husband doesnt have a beard, nor does my father nor my brother.

so next time do some reading before asking. it is not wrong if you ask, but if it is really a genuine search for knowledge, then it is worth. ever seen Mary and Jesus-pbut, why do u see one with Hijab and the other without one?.

have a nice day and peace.

It's obvious that females were created with more beauty than males. And that hair and body is a seduction to males. And God created this beauty for marriage, not to make the woman just a tool for advertisement. She is supposed to be respected more than it is in the west. Think of street prostitutes, new cars ads., video clip attractions, playboy magazines, porno movies industries...... and many other things. Is that the respect that a lady deserves?

My question to you is: Why does a nun have to wear hijab???

As you can see, wearing hijab and modest clothes shows and gains the deserved respect.

I don't. It's not mentioned in the Qur'an and i only follow the Qur'an as i think it is an insult to God to follow men-written Haddith after the Qur'an which God says is the FINAL haddith. So i don't very simple, the Qur'an only says to cover your chest, it is the Bible that says that women must cover their heads...hijab is not mentioned in the Qur'an anywhere in women's clothing. Infact there is a Muslim tribe in Northern Africa where the men wear the hijab instead of the women....
The word hijab DOES NOT mean modesty.
"Hijab" is the term used by many Muslims women to describe their head cover that may or may not include covering their face except their eyes, and sometimes covering also one eye. The Arabic word "Hijab" can be translated into veil or yashmak. Other meanings for the word "Hijab" include, screen, cover(ing), mantle, curtain, drapes, partition, division, divider.
\Can we find the word "Hijab" in the Quran??
The word "Hijab" appeared in the Quran 7 times, five of them as "Hijab" and two times as "Hijaban," these are 7:46, 33:53, 38:32, 41:5, 42:51, 17:45 & 19:17.
None of these "Hijab" words are used in the Quran in reference to what the traditional Muslims call today (Hijab) as a dress code for the Muslim woman.
God knows that generations after Muhammed's death the Muslims will use the word "Hijab" to invent a dress code that He never authorized. God used the word "Hijab" ahead of them just as He used the word "Hadith" ahead of them.
Muslims should treat the Qur'an as being whole and complete and know that when God includes something it is deliberate and when he leaves something out it is deliberate, unless they want to say God is a lier or made a mistake on this part. If they want to attribute the hijab to God's words then that is their perogative but they are dishonouring God as God never insisted women wear one. God does not make mistakes. they say, oh but it is tradition and women wore it before so God didn't need to put it in the Qur'an, but this argument is clearly flawed....the Qur'an is the Final word of God. You are supposed to be able to follow the religion perfectly if you were stranded on a deserted island without all the volumes of haddith, that many Muslims now sinfully attribute to God, and be able to know what God wants from you. The Qur'an should be treated as whole and perfect by Muslims as God says it is......he does not say women must wear a hijab so don't attribute this to him....he says reveal what is necessary, he doesn't say cover everything but the hands and face, so don't but in words for him and say they are his words..."what is necessary" is left up to the individual, God does not leave things for scholars and men to ordain.

I am pretty sick and tired of seeing this same question over and over again. It has been asked and answered many time.

1. Muslim women to not have to wear hijab.

2. Muslim men and women are both required to dress modestly.

3. The best modeesty is in your hearts.

Peace and Blessings,

Salim

because of the fact in lots of Muslim international locations women are 2d classification electorate who don't have the superb to be considered in public as something extra effective than an nameless lady. Bringing this type of contempt for women to united statesa. is in all risk a lost reason, because of the fact quicker or later they understand the actual purpose and don't would desire to stand for it. quicker or later you would be waiting to assert your self. wait and spot!

Men and women are different physically. Men are required only to cover the parts of their bodies between the stomach and the knee.
