There is so much to grasp in the Bible and so many ways that God can speak to us through the accounts in the Bible. We can find encouragement in Psalms. We can read about people's trust in God and things they went through in their lives that we are going through in our own lives. We can see over and over again through the accounts in the Bible how people trusted in God through every imaginable situation and how He helped them to become more spiritually mature as they focused on Him. On top of all of that, just like people don't go on a trip unless they have directions to know what route they need to travel--it's best to use a map (I've often learned this the hard way)--how can we find God's will for our lives unless we are studying what He has already told us and learn to focus on and trust in Him? And on top of that, if Jesus is our best friend (as those of us who believe in Him should claim), why would we not want to spend time with our best friend? I know that it seems absurd on the surface to spend our entire lives so focused on just one book, but the more we study and the more we focus our attention on God, the more we will become like Him and the more we will know Him. I think this world is in such bad shape because we have far too many people who claim to follow Jesus but who aren't spending a minute of time with Him in prayer or studying His word. It's kind of like those distant cousins we all see at family reunions--we have the same name as these people, but we really don't know them at all because we never talk to them or spend time with them. Anyone can call themselves a Christian, but only those who have spent time in prayer and studying the Bible will truly become like Jesus. And even at the end of our earthly lives, we'll just barely be scratching the surface of knowing Him, and this learning process will continue for us throughout eternity. I encourage you to check out the Bible for yourself. If you don't have a Bible of your own, you can read it online at the first link below. I'd suggest starting with the book of John. Feel free to drop me a line at chad@jesusfreak.com if I can help with any questions you might have.

I'm agnostic too and I read the Bible in its entirety 4 times and partially several other times including the Torah/OT. I read the Koran twice and all the other holy books at least one time. There were so many versions of the Bible, I picked the top 4. The Koran I read a simple English translation and then a more authentic one. Bible issues kept coming up and I would have to look up and read again. Also to compare to one another, the Jewish version of the OT and the Koran. In all these books the meaning will change as you learn the history and other details of the language, culture and time. As for more philosophical readings, like the teaching of the Buddha, the understanding will change with your place in life and state of mind. I suppose the same would be true of the "prophetizing" religious books but I could never seem to remove those messages from the context in which they were presented.

I like your comment that God loves everyone the same. This is the only possible truth otherwise God would simply not create the so-called bad people.

People read the bible over and over to reinforce the nonsense that it contains. If they actually thought about what it was saying it would be seen as the lie about God that it is.

I have read most of the bible and parts of the Koran. There are far more similarities than there are differences in the way God is depicted as a judgmental and punishing entity.

Luck for them, the real God has a sense of humor. Or they would be toast.

Love and blessings Don

some do, yet i don't think of they should. extremely some the Hebrew writing interior the previous testomony became written after the activities and transcribed from custom. I comprehend extremely some the recent testomony stuff might have been additionally. i understand Y'Shua's (in accordance to different writings from the time, that probably became Jesus’ actual call) words have been written later by using others. He did not write something. I examine these days that became genuine with reference to the Quran. The words are Muhammad's yet he did not write them down. somebody else did later. As I referred to truly some human beings bypass by using extremely some worry attempting to show each and every be conscious is genuine and from God. it is obtrusive to me lots is legends and fabricated to effect the Hebrews and, later, the Jewish cult that over some centuries enhanced into Christianity. a pair examples are the thoughts of Samson and interest. i think they are in simple terms classes approximately marriage regulations and loyalty to God. interior the Quran, there are issues i discover very sensible, like the warning approximately vengeance; yet there are some issues that i think might serve frequently Muhammad. One is his explanation to his different halves and yet another is struggling with to the dying for Islam. I learn religions, and different philosophies, and the two books are good representations of cultures' perspectives of themselves, their international, God and the family between those. Too many human beings attempt to place extra into them than is in there. this is the place the worry starts off. in case you prefer to renowned approximately God, close the books and seem around you. he's everywhere outdoors the books. extremely little of him is in there.

along with the other answers might also have something to do with the age one is when they read the BIBLE. if one reads whatever book it is as a youth there will be a different influence and result as reading as an adult and then as a older person. when a youth we are just starting on the path to gain wisdom and knowledge as an adult we are working and rearing a family while in old age we are applying the wisdom and knowledge already learned in preparation to the advancement of mankind

When you were a child did you ever read your favorite childrens book over and over, or have someone read it to you over and over again? Same thing. God also reveals different things at different times as one studies and reads. You can read the same thing and get different revelation.

People read things again because they have wisdom.
Many times I have read things and thought I had a revelation about what it meant, and read it again later, and it didn't
mean what I thought at all.
Humans have diffferent perspectives. That's why you
can say something, and someone will say, "Oh this
is what you mean?" And we'll be like, "No, that's not what I mean at all!"
Double checking gives us clarity. Or a more definite understanding.

It is the road map. If your on a trip, you want to make sure your going the right way, well same thing for people wanting to go to heaven, they read the Book, this is the last trip they will make, and they want to make sure they do not go the wrong way.

you've never read a book you enjoy, repeatedly?

or watched a movie you really like, repeatedly?

the idea, as has been said, is that each time you read it, it "looks" different, because you've changed, your always changing, every experience shifts your perspective.

in fact I think this might get me to read through Hobbit and LOTR again. yay!

Allah is pleased when we read the Quran specially in the morning, and it makes Allah more happy when we recite it over and over again. Do you have any problem with that, let us do our thing and you do whatever you are doing.
