Offering hair
Tonsuring – the act of shaving your head to propitiate God - is a long standing ritual associated with Tirumala. As per the Vaishavite tradition, devotees offer their hair to the Lord which symbolizes effacing of the ego. Tonsuring used to be done at cottages itself in the past where a barber could be summoned, but new addition is a centralized system which has been put in place at Kalyana Katta, a huge building near the temple. Now, all the barbers sit there in along side each other once you enter the complex. The devotees can pay as per their discretion to the barbers after tonsuring. A bathroom has been provided next to the Kalyanakatta facilitate devotees to take bath. Alternately, a holy dip in the Pushkarini can also be taken, after which the devotees are then supposed to visit the temple for darshan.

There is a custom in India to offer hair to the Lord. Both male and female offer hair. It is a strong belief among the Hindus by offering anything including hair to the Lord will be pleased. It is nothing but a devotion towards the Lord.

It depends on the individual and what suits him. Also if the hair is long, it's how he wears it and if he takes care of it. Healthy, clean and shiny, that sort of thing. I admit a slight leaning towards a nice main on a man! I would look at it holistically though, from the inside out; heart, personality, intelligence, pyhisique...the whole thing and how it all fits together for that individual and who they are. Yah gotta be yourself, so attack the hair thing as personal expression! It's truth in advertising. You might get happier results.

Hair is found to be one of the most beautiful part in women. But they have lot of faith in god. So they will praise the god for a work to be done. In return they will give their beautiful hairs. This show the way of worship of women in south india

By giving the hair they are showing their gratitude to the Great Lord.
For eg when u see a gal with hair, does she not look beautiful, when she is shaven she looks a bit ugly.Beauty is the essence, by giving her hair to the lord she has given her beauty which is very precious to LADIES.

I disagree that shaving the hair off makes women ugly, or sacrifices their beauty. It gives them a new and different kind of beauty that I find intriguing.
