Boil your water, and add a dash of vinegar (this helps to stop the eggs cracking). Once boiling, gently lower your eggs into the water and time for exactly 4 minutes. Take them off the heat and drain the water carefully. (or if you have a draining spoon, take them out of the water with that). This should give you the perfect egg for your soldiers.
P.S. make sure you have nice sized eggs......these days they look like they have been laid by sparrows!!
Let me know how they turn out.

I put the egg in the pan and bring it to a boil and cover it and shut the burner off. I let it sit for 5-6 minutes. Since I've been doing it that way it always comes out just right. The eggs don't crack either. I heard a representative of an egg company speak about this on a cooking show I was involved in a few years back. When I do it this way it doesn't over, or under cook. Usually my eggs are fairly large. I often make boiled eggs and I also enjoy poached.

Never heard the 3 minute rule. first of all use eggs you had for about a week. its ok to keep eggs out of fridge even. the more eggs you cook the longer you should boil them. I always start with cool water, gently add the eggs. Add tsp salt, bring to a boil then turn it down to a low gentle boil. Let them boil for 15-20 minutes. turn off the heat and set pan in sink add cool running water into the pan. Soon as the water feels cooler turn it off and let the eggs sit in it for another 10 minutes. Tap the shell gently around the egg. In doing this I always have perfect eggs. Fully cooked, nice firm yellow yolk. No runny whites. Using your older eggs first is the trick to easy peeling.

LONDON (Reuters) - A British inventor claims to have cracked the age-old problem of how to boil the perfect egg.
Simon Rhymes has devised a machine that uses powerful light bulbs instead of boiling water to cook the egg.
The gadget, which looks like a glass cafetiere, does the job in six minutes and then chops off the top to allow dipping with toast "soldiers".
Rhymes, 23, said he came up with the idea because he found it hard to cook an egg the traditional way.
"Many people are confused," the product design student told BBC radio on Wednesday. "This simply uses four 500-watt bulbs to heat the egg directly."
Rhymes, from Wiltshire, said he has secured a patent and is in talks with manufacturers to mass-produce the machine.

how to boil an egg.........the age old question.
well.......your water must be from the tap and not boiling (although some disagree) place the eggs(room temp not from the fridghe) into the cold water and bring to the boil.
wait until it is rapidly boiling and boil for three mins. get an agg timer if you dont already have one.they make a world of difference.
at three min remove immediatly and eat.
Now the size of your eggs is very dependant.......a medium egg will be three mins and an extra large egg will be 4 mins.
perfect everytime........and if you buy free rannge there is an added chance of getting a double yolker which is doubly exciting.
good luck.........and happy dunking.

I sympathise with you, I really do. I'm the same. Can russle up a mean lasagne, chillis, home-made pasta sauces, soups, etc, but when it comes to making an omlette, I just can't get it!
Anyway, Delia seems to know best about everything, so click on the below link for her tried and tested method for boiling the perfect egg!

works all the time for me. cold water about an inch above the eggs. start fire on blaze and then sprinkle some salt in the water. about a teaspoon. they will be ready in exactly 17-18 minutes. sometimes when in a hurry even at 15 mins but i hate the runny crap so i make sure when i have the time.
