I have a hard time understanding why so many professed Christians and people of other races have so much hate towards one religion. I live amoungst millions of Muslims and they do not harm me, in fact one of my friends who is Muslim said that on 9/11 she and her family PRAYED for the US's capture of the horrible Terrorists. There are radical people everywhere, i'm just trying to understand the logic behind some of this Islam bashing.

Jack- I think you're right. Before I moved to the Middle East I thought this whole part of the world was swarming with insurgents trying to kill everyone. I live in peace, in a nation where you have TRUE freedom, and where the crime rate is .01%

I'm Muslim and I agree acting like the victim will not help. I don't want anyone's sympathy or pity. Bash me and my religion all day if you want, it will only make me stronger. The funny thing is though, the things all these people are saying on here are the exact same things terrorists say. They twist Quranic quotations the same way Osama Bin Laden does. They make a peaceful religion look violent. Both are wrong and both need to educate themselves.
Then again I believe as this life is a test for us and Allah will be testing and examining us through lots of thicks and thins to reveal our true faith in him. I think its one of those thicks and thins. We need not to give up and lose faith in him. We need to seek patience and courage from Allah. And God grants patience and courage to those who seek. May Allah grant us great patience and courage.(Amen)

Ignorance,media,warped perception of religion and followers, incorrect beliefs about about islamic society and incorrect beliefs about what Muslims think.
People fear what they dont know. Like you said you had a lot to learn before you changed your opinion. so does the rest of the world.
Sadly the picture that is painted by the media and the does not help. Politicians appeal to the fear and ignorance in people to create hate for something they dont even understand or know much about.
I am glad that Muslims and Non-muslims alike are beginning to seek knowledge and speak out.

Why forget many Muslims also died in the same incident. All the Muslim countries felt pain for the dead. It is sheer ignorance that generates hate. Baring a few all Muslims are peace loving. Just see how a poor country like Bangladesh almost eliminated the religious terrorists who were killing their own keath and kins.

And all those who spread mischief in the name of religion will be only breaking their heads. This age is of information highway and things are near to your doorsteps. Only you have to come closer and open up your inner self and ask oneself "Why I am here in this world"

Thank you for not being biased but as you said radicalism is everywhere and so is hatred. I am sure many Christians as why so much hatred towards Christianity? and so do Jews. We all hate everything that is different from us or unknown to us, instead of trying to come closer to undersand it or at least tolerate and respect it.
The media has also played a big role in this. And I think the Muslim world, the east in particular is still viewed as a vast desert with scattered tribes living in tents and moving around on camels!!!
I work in an international organisation in Egypt and was in the UK in business with British colleagues. Can you imagine that, to be nice to me, the British colleague that is living in Britian was showing me cutlery and explaining that I need to use the spoon to eat like this (and he demonstrated!!)? He was serious, not mocking or being offernsive!! I said: why are you telling me this? Do you think I eat using my hands? He said 'yes' I added: and I go to work on camel back? He said: don't you?
We all owe it to each other and to ourselves to open our minds and not leave our brains to the media. We need to read and know about each other, get tohether to know each other more, open our hearts, abolish hatred and discrimination on any basis or at least accept each other as we are.

Why do people harbor such detestation towards Islam?
Ignorance is a nasty weapon created from fear, and lack of understanding. People are simple creatures we point the blame at a person or a group of people to make ourselves feel better. With the media reporting Islamic people as terrorist its not uncommon for the majority of enraged people to naturally hate them. I personally don't have any bitterness with any group of people. I tend to judge people after I get to know them instead of what's on the news or stereotypes.

well although 9/11 showed that many innocent Americans were killed among them, the Media FAILED to show that Muslims DIED Oon THAT day too. they show many U.S marines fighting against the Taliban , but how many men of AFGHAN ARMY are shown -- who stand as the front cover for others. the media did show US/UK marines fighting in Iraq but they Failed to EMPHASIZE ON THE FACT the it were Iraqi Muslims who helped get Al-ZAWAHARI. they Failed to BRING TO ATTENION that it were British Muslim and Pakistan that helped STOP the attack on UK rescently.
oh if people think that muslims are happy about what is happening and we benefit by it -- they need to re-think.
Jihad in the name of Tainting the Image of Islam? NEVER. Jihad for killing innocent people in Islam?. NEVER. it is not only a TRANSGRESSION BUT ALSO A SIN. and what do suicide bombers get? Reward,NEVER. Allah has promised that who so ever takes their lives before his/her call, they die the same death for the rest of their Afterlife. Heaven is not for them.
Allah knows best and He will bring us to the thruth on Day of Judgement, when each one of us will have to answer OUR CREATOR.

and lack of understanding brings fear
its very sad , and like you i know many muslims who are wonderful people and are shocked by the horrors going on in the name of islam
but
it isnt only muslims who get bashed ... there are many groups of people who do
but its just muslims in the media spotlight at the moment that emphasises the problems and adds to the fear
people really should learn about others and stop with the generalisation xx
