I don't know what country you are in but in most if you don't go they can and will arrest you. If you are arrested for not showing they can hold you a very long time without a trial. If I was you I'd go.

I don't know where you live, but I can tell you how it works where I live:
The summons only needs to be served to someone over the age of 14 at the address. It does not need to be served on the person being summoned.
If you don't show up in court on the date and time specified, the Judge will make one phone call to your residence (if they have your number) and you will be told to get there immediately.
If you are not there within 1/2 hour or if they were unable to reach you on the phone, the Judge will send a marshall or sheriff over to take you into custody and deliver you to the courtroom and honey ... it won't matter if all you are wearing is a bath towel and a smile. You are going with them that instant, and they will use physical force if necessary.
Once you are a witness, it is not up to you to decide if you want to be involved or not. You are a witness, and that's that.

Oh you poor thing.
I don't know where you are, but if you have a summons to go to court in UK, if you don't turn up you could be in contempt of court and be arrested.
Your situation is a little awkward because it would seem you are being asked to DEFEND the man who killed your partner - a bit rough on you. However, I don't know the details, so it could well be that it was an accident and you witnessed it, I don't know.
I would strongly suggest you contact the court immediately and see if you can speak to someone who can give you proper advice. You are not in any trouble here, but you might be if you don't turn up to court.
This is very stressful fo you so you do need to speak to someone as soon as possible. I hope everything turns out OK.

yes you do have to go. you could ignore the summons on the grounds that it was not handed to you personally but you would have to say you knew nothing about the summonds.which is not true . also if the court wants to see you they will get their way in the end of that you can be sure.
