My passport expired in Feb 06. Now I have shifted to a different state, where I do not have any proofs which can be submitted for renewal of passport.
Whether I can renew my passport with the new address? Whether I need to apply in the same place where the old one was obtained or I can apply for a fresh passport in my new place submitting the old one?
Can anyone clarify my doubt? Thanks

If you are staying in a rented place, the rent agreement or the rent receipt copy of the latest month will suffice. If you have bought a place the agreement copy will be required for address proof. If you are working with a company and they have provided you accomodation, take a document stamped by the Company and provide the same as proof.

However the old passport details like Name and date of birth are universal records and applicable in any state. The law only checks for change in address and contact details, these are more vital, so make sure that these records are submitted properly. If in doubt visit your nearest passport office in your region.

The condition of validity of passport for six or more than 6 months is applicable in most of the countries. In India, go to the nearest RPO (if you are in India), submit the requisite form duly completed with fees, offcourse. You will get the same duly reviewed within a month. Try it if you have sufficient time to travel.

You shall have to apply afresh for a passport giving all the new details of your residence etc. Also attach old passport with the new application.
