Single malt whisky is a 100% malted barley whisky from one distillery. Johnnie Walker Black Label is a blend of as many as 40 whiskies, each aged at least 12 years.

The black is a blend of whiskeys at the average 12 years in age, the red is a blend of 6 year whiskers in the average. For your information blue is 25 years.

Don't thing its worth paying the extra, have blind tasted them and difference is not that great in a blended whiskey. Single malts a totally different story since they are one whiskey matured the time on the label, unfortunately also more expensive.

Age and blend. Black is aged 12 years and is a blend of up to 40 different whiskeys. If you really want to go for the gusto, go for blue label--aged 50 to 60 years and sold in a silk lined box. The 200th anniversary edition sells for about $4000 a bottle.
