Ok, I would like a few explanations if you have the time...

What are the absolute best settings for someone with a 5mbit cable connection to get the best download speed?

I have read that you should put your uploading at 80% of your maximum uploading speed cap as set by your ISP. For me, that would be 192k/sec (250k/sec upload cap). When I set it that high though, my download speed seems to go down to anywhere from 0k/sec to 8k/sec, but no higher.

Secondly, what is the best as for "Max number of connections per download"? I noticed that some of the seeded files have over 5000+ peers downloading, and upwards of 900+ seeders. If I set my max connections (Connected peers at once) to 1000, will that have any bad affects on my downloading?

If you are a bitlord / torrent guru who manages to get over 150K/sec download speeds, I'd really appreciate a definate answer to this question. I used to be able to get 300K/sec downloading, now I am running between 15K and 50K/sec. :(

i usually get 300KB+ using utorrent. with your connection i would suggest 50KB/s upload cap speed and set your download cap speed to 400KB/s. also set your maximum connections per download to 150 as too many connections can actually slow down your download because there are more seperate data packets being sent which all have to be checked and put together. also windows xp is preconfigured to only connect to 10 IPs per increment but there is a little program you can download to change that, you can get the program here: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2005/11/15/windows-xp-sp2-tcp-connection-limit-event-id-4226/
when you run it, change the number of connections to 90.

doing these things will speed up your torrents loads but the most important thing is if you are using a router then you need to do the port forwarding but thats another issue altogether. i hope this helps, good luck!
