After having made an application addressed to the parish I have been baptized, in order to make the annotation on the baptized persons’ registry that I don't want to be considered Catholic anymore, the priest has answered after one month with a letter in which it’s written like this: "It is communicated to Mr... that in the baptized persons’ registry of this parish, as on his/her application required, in the date of ... has been recorded the defection from the faith." For those who don’t know what the word “defection” means, there is the definition:1 the state of having rejected your religious beliefs or your political party or a cause; 2 failure, lack, loss. The fact is that I haven’t asked to annotate that I abdicate the faith, because I do have it and there is nothing that can make me renounce it. Is this a loyal and legal behavior? Even if you’re not a priest, your opinion is appreciated.

I have written a second letter to the priest to know exactly what he has annotated nn the registry, informing him again that I have not abandoned any faith and that I only asked to annotate that I don't want to be considered Catholic anymore, but I didn’t get any answer at all.

Quello che vorrei sottolineare e` il fatto che non credo che il fatto di non far piu` parte della Chiesa Cattolica e` uguale alla "defezione della fede". Non sostenere piu` la Chiesa Cattolica non mi rende meno cristiano.

Either you are or you're not. You're Catholic or you have defected and left your faith.

As you well know, having entered into the "fullness of the faith" you cannot simply choose what parts of Christianity you like and discard that which you don't like, like many of our "separated brethren" of the Protestant denominations. Catholicism simply does not work that way.

If you choose to no longer be considered Catholic, then by your actions to reject the faith, you have excommunicated yourself.

How is it that you think you can stop being a Catholic after being baptized Catholic, yet retain the faith? You think you can leave the Catholic Church with her seven sacraments for a Protestant denomination with maybe two, and retain the fullness of faith you had? You must ask yourself the bigger and deeper questions surrounding this issue. Why are you asking for this change?

It sounds like you need to go speak with someone, maybe outside of your regular parish at the Diocese level maybe about problems or issues concerning the Church that they may be able to help you clear up. Leaving the faith is not the answer to whatever is going on.

The priest did exactly as you asked.

You're quibbling about the specific legal language he used, under official Catholic Canon Law.

He knows what he's doing.

I doubt you do.

Leave it alone. It's done.

Your defection from the one, true, Catholic faith has been duly noted.

To the Catholic Church you are abdicating your faith by stating that you no longer consider yourself Catholic. They consider you a defector. In the eyes of God, as long as you follow His Word, you are still Christian.

The same thing happened to a good friend of mine.

but you are renouncing your Roman Catholic faith. that doesn't mean you aren't still a Christian. i don't understand why it matters to you what it says in their notes, if you don't follow, believe or understand them anymore. notice it says ddefecations of THE faith, not just faith.
i'm sorry if this sounds mean but, you got what you aked for - you don't want to be considered Catholic anymore and that's what the priest gave you.

why get hung up about this. on the day of judgment jesus is not going to go through this priests notes or take any notice of it.
The real issue is where is your heart in all of this? do you believe that Jesus is God or not, do you love him have you asked for your sins to be forgiven have you confessesd him as lord ? The bible plainly sais that if you confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that jesus is lord you shall be saved period. what he has written sais more about what he is trusting in than you.

Be still and know that I am God should be a verse that helpful me thinks God bless
