I am currently setting up my business can I ask a few stupid questions?
1)What do I call my position in the company? I am working for myself.

2) I have a database of potential customers, and would like some ideas on how to advertise to them...I have brochures and a website - but I cannot ring these companies (for reason I won't go into). Are there any other marketing strategies I can use?

The database is my own...creation used by myself, that at the present time - only lists potential customer addresses'....and orgs names.

I have the telephone numbers for these orgs, but they are essentially Helpline no's, and so out of my own ethics should never really be used to market things down.

Well the position depends on your role within the company. Managing Director is the boss of the whole company, who has an active role, you could be the Chair Person of the company if you have a board of directors doing things for you. You could just simply call yourself the Owner or Proprietor or Chief Executive.

make sure your business is listed in the Yellow pages and Yell.com with your website attached, also Thomson local and other directories. Most people will simply do a search to find a company. You can pay for slots on search engines, can be very expensive though, for example a company will pay Google a set amount to be the first name on a search for their keywords.

Send out your brochure but try to find out a specific person to address it too so that it will get looked at. I used to be a PA and usually if the post didn't have a name on it would come to me and then I'd throw it in a file and forget about it, but if it had gone to the correct dept then they would look at it and remember the company. You can get directories on the Internet or just phone the receptionist and ask who is in charge of such a such dept. You're not doing any telesales, you're just asking a question. No harm in that.
Good look.

1) If you are the only person in the business, then call yourself by your name. Clients will prefer that as calling yourself CEO or something will look plain silly.

2) You have to make direct personal contact with potential clients if you want any possible chance of being successful. If the database of potential customers is your current employer's then you will need to take the risk, quit and start your own business openly.

It depend swho you are talking to as to what you call yourself. If it is the bank then call yourself the proprietor.
If it is a client whatever youfeel is appropiate But Managing Director is probably the most common.

As for marketing, itis difficult to say unless you tell us who your target audience is. For instance Business to Business B to C or what ever and the industry sector, Marketing is about targeting the right people otherwise if you use the buckshot method and hope some hits the right people and does the damage it is extremely costly.

1) Typically you would be called "owner." Unless you are setup as a corporation then you could be called many things: president, ceo, chairman, etc.

2) There are many strategies. However, choosing the best depends on the type of contact information you have and the marketing message you want to deliver.
