I am 23 yrs old and was diagnosed w/ pcos when i was 17-18. The docs told me that my ovaries are full of cysts. They put me on birth control so that i would have my periods but i don't ovulate. I don't have pains or any kinds of symptoms with it. The only downside with pcos is that it is very dificult to have a child since you don't ovulate. There are many women that do have children with pcos but others have to take fertility drugs. I am actually running into that problem right now.

Hey my wife was diagnosised with polycystic ovarian syndrome. Your OB/GYN will treat it by having you on birth control for about a year. Many symptoms exsist such as not having a regular period, above average body hair, weight gain (it fluxuates). For the most part it will not interefere with pregnancy in the future after you have been on BC for a year. My wife wasn't on the BC for a whole year before she got pregnant. Now she is about 4 months along with a healthy baby due in April 7 2007.

There is not much you can do about the wieght or body hair. My wife goes to the salon and has a body waxing regulaly and excersises and watches what she eats which is good for you anyway.

Good Luck! and make sure to see your OB/GYN to get started on BC

I have PCOS and have learned lots and lots, I really don't know where to start except to say that of all the doctors and websites I have been to I learned 90% from a yahoo group and the friendship and support is fantastic. Everyone had been there done that and very Happy to give friendly advice. I'm in Australia and the list is Aussie but anyone is welcome. the link is

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/pcos-australia/

a good site to visit is

http://www.pcosupport.org/

The most important thing I learned is that you CAN get pregnant, (I now have 3 children) but you need to educate yourself on how your body works, as it is slightly different to the norm!!!
Too keep on top of it you need to Exercises more than average and eat low GI (Glycemic Index, google it if your not familiar) and cut the sugar to keep hormones level.

Hope you can get on top of it and I really recommend joining the group and ask, ask, ask. I credit the group for me getting on top of PCOS before it got on top of me!!

Good Luck
