I've heard both midnight and three o'clock. What do you think it is?

if you watch horror movies involving devils, demons, or other spirituality they will say that it is 3AM to mock the time that Christ died. Try the Exorcism of Emily Rose, the priest in it explains it completely.

For the person who said: "Three Ante Meridian as opposed to Post Meridian to mock the hour Christ died on the Cross."
It is not logical because Christianity is a new religion and witches and witch craft go back a lot longer than that. Also traditionally Christ died at 3 pm, It is in the film of the Exorcism of Audrey Rose, that the witching hour is referred to as 3am.

"In European folklore, the witching hour is the time when supernatural creatures such as witches, demons and ghosts are thought to be at their most powerful, and black magic at its most effective. This hour is typically midnight, and the term may now be used to refer to midnight, or any late hour, even without having the associated superstitious beliefs.

In neopaganism, it is sometimes used to refer solely to midnights occurring during a full moon, when a witch's power is supposedly at its greatest."

Don't forget the triple witching hour on Wall Street. This is from the first link below:

An event that occurs when the contracts for stock index futures, stock index options and stock options all expire on the same day. Triple witching days happen four times a year: the third Friday of March, June, September and December. This phenomenon is sometimes referred to as "freaky Friday".

The final trading hour for that Friday is the hour known as triple witching. The markets are quite volatile in this final hour, as traders are quickly offsetting their option/futures orders before the closing bell. If you are a long-term investor, triple witching will have a minimal impact on you.

i have heard it is 3 am for several reasons

the person above mentioned the mocking of Christs hour 3 pm
but there is a more logical reason that people feel this is the witching hour
in the past it is reported that 3 am is the time most people die...
many people pass in their sleep or from drunken nights out
so this has made people in the past a little wary of that time , thinking the devil will take you
funnily enough though , most babies are born at this time also , so it kinda equals out
its all silly superstition though so i wouldn't worry about it

it fairly is "midnight". Contray to commonly used perception, midnight is the mid factor of time between dusk and daybreak, may be considered nearer to 03:00 than 12:00. certainly, it adjustments from on a daily basis because of the fact the days get longer and shorter. it incredibly is the "Witching hour" the "Devils hour", the time 'twixt dusk and daybreak.
