It depends how I'm feeling that day. I just answered a question I wouldn't bother answering any other day.... well, I guess because the person sounded desperate... so I would say... today I was attracted to the desperate-for-an-answer ones.... but on second thoughts... actually most of the time it's those kind of questions I try to give an answer to.... and sometimes questions like yours that make me think about myself for a sec.

Many questions posted on this site are ridiculous or have a painfully obvious answer. I select questions that I want to answer based on the following criteria: difficulty (I like challenging questions), specificity (I won't answer a question unless it is concise and to the point), interest (the subject matter must interest me), importance (I would much rather answer a question that is of greater importance to the asker, opposed to a question that really doesn't have any value).
Many times there have been questions posed and there are dozens of answers for that question. Some times, there are answers to a question that have detailed every thing I would have detailed. Therefore, answering the question would be pointless for me; the question has already been answered in a manner I would accept.

Usually one that i have had experience with in my life. That way maybe I can help someone, comfort someone, or stop them from making a mistake. Some times I'm just in a silly mood and answer off the wall questions.

I don't know, usually a subject I like or dislike ( either way I have to feel somewhat strongly about)... or a funny question, sometimes stupid questions( I mean the rude and offensive ones) just to get 2 pts...
Or sometimes I just pick randomly...

There are two kinds.
The first, answers are not common knowledge, but I know them. That way I don't have too much competition, so hopefully that gives me the edge for points.
The next category is if they are easy to answer. Like this one. I have nothing to lose, and two points to gain.
