it starts fine when its warmer outside, but when the temp starts to drop it starts very hard. it takes about 3-5 times to start.

I agree with RSWDEW in his answer to you but also suggest that in addition to what was mentioned check your passage for your EGR valve and make sure that there is no restrictions in it.People do everything else but overlook these areas on their vehicles also if it is a high miles engine try using a higher octane gasoline,you cannot feed pork to an old man every day,lower octane gas are are harder to ignite than higher octane in the combustion chambers especially with colder conditions and higher mileage vehicles.good luck

Try putting a block heater on it. How long has it been since you've had a tune-up and oil change? Check the spark plugs and wires, plugs can be stubborn when cold and/or wet(obviously). Try that stuff and see if it fixes the problem.

On that truck you probably have a cold start injector and it is not working properly have it checked out!! Good luck!!!

try using a lower weight oil. try 5W30.
