I raised dogs, and my daughter raised Persian cats.. All got along splendidly in our home..We did need to put the cat food up high, where the dogs couldn't steal it..
One dog took it upon herself to be the "keeper of the cats"..she would make them use their own litter boxes, and get upset if one used the other's box!
Another huge dog was the cat's bed..He would sleep with 6 cats sleeping on his back..all nice and warm..

Yes. Lots of people have dogs and cats in the same house as pets. We had the cat first. When it was grown, we got a puppy. The puppy thought the cat was its mother or something. He loved her, but she hated him. He would try to go up to her and lick her, and she would hiss at him and bat him. Soon enough, she got used to him. And then they were best buddies. When the cat would come in from being out, the dog would go lick and slobber all over her. And she would let him. When the dog was outside once, another bigger dog came running into the yard. The cat got between the two dogs and hissed and arched its back and the strange dog protecting our dog. It was the neatest thing to see.

Yes you can. Especially if they grow up and play together. I had a dog and a cat (God bless their souls) who grew up together, and they sometimes even ate from the same bowl! Well, my dog didn't like it when my cat shared her food, but she gave in anyway.
Remember that a cat and a dog have different ways of viewing the world around them. A cat is territorial, while a dog will always be so obedient to his master. Since they have different perspectives, better that they get to know each other while they are still young to avoid conflicts.

When I went on Holiday to S.A. I left my pregnant ***** with my sister in law who had a pregnant cat. Neither of these animals were used to each other but they had there babies in the same room and fed each others babies as if they were all cats or dogs.
We used to joke and call the babies kittenpups! Needless to say I kept a kitten and he is 10 years old and best friend of a lively Bull mastiff ***** of 3. They recently got a hedgehog friend, all living happily together!

I have an eighty pound Black Lab female and four cats. They all get along great. One of the cats is Black male. My Lab thinks he is her little brother. When the cats fight with each other the Lab breaks in up and sends them to neutral corners. Oddly enough my dogs goes after any stray cats that come into our back yard....Best way to insure that they get along is to get them as puppy and kitten. Cat may get upset at first but will eventually become great friends.

My Doberman and cat are more like husband and wife, they wash each other and even sleep together. However, it is quite common for small dogs to attack cats. Being the same size there exists a struggle for control of the territory. If the dog is small I wouldn't recommend having a cat.

Absolutely! I have 2 dogs and 2 cats and they get along very well! My one cat even sleeps with the dogs. Of course, he was a kitten when we got him. Our other cat, which we got as an adult, tolerates the dogs and will even love up against them from time to time.

Yes you can. I have a 7 year old cocker spaniel and a 15 week old kitten and my two get along like they were best friends. It is just a matter of having them around each other and letting them know that they are both okay.

Depends on the cat and dog. If you get them both young (just weaned) they will probably get on great. I have had dogs and cats that loved each other and got on great. The dog I have now can not be allowed near a cat.

Yes, I have had dogs and cats together for most of my 51+ odd years.
When I was a kid, a stray cat we rescued had kittens, and the dog would kitten sit and lick them if they started to fret. He did a great job taking care of them.
