I hope people would really look at the issue of Prophet Muhammad and Al-Sayeda Aisha marriage in context of time and culture as you put it intead of decontextualising it to be just an old man marrying a 9 year old.
And by the way, though Prophet Muhammad married her when she was 9, he (pbuh) left her to enjoy her early years to the most in her father's house (Abu Bakr As-sedeeq) till she was 12. When she turned 12, more than a full woman at that time in that culture, she moved to his house (pbuh) and started her life as a wife.
Lightning, what I do not see eye to eye with you is your last comment about i of 4 girls being raped by their fathers in the western culture.
1. I think this is a generalisation, even if the numbers are correct. The western culture is a very broad thing to talk about and state facts.
2. We are not here to say 'our culture and your culture'. There are positives and negatives everywhere. I am sure at the time of Prophet Muhammad, around 9 years was pretty much the marriage age of girls in places other than the east. That's it.
3. Though other people offend us and insult our prophet, we should not do the same, though you did not really insult. But where would attacking each other take us?
Thank you very much

WOW, your girls sure do mature fast.
OK my culture, here goes.
We are a proud people, yes very proud indeed (Rwandese) sure we've been know to kill each other but we are working on that. We hope to have a solution that is acceptable to all of us soon.
We however dont kill other people because they dont get our culture.
Dont lie that you dont care what we (am not from the west) say about the great and powerful Mohammed. The pope made a few comments and the next thing you know there is a plane hijacked in protest.
P.s not all the people in the world are talking about this issue just those in the US and since they are them and we are not we'll have to listen.
People be it moslem or not have opinions you should let them voice them as they should let you voice yours.

your stats are wrong but i agree with what you are saying. the social dynamic was very different at that time and people are just looking for one thing to focus on so that they can disprove everything else that the Prophet (PBUH) did.
getting your period does not make you mature enough to get married.
Here in SA a women is raped once every 10mins (that is an accurate statistic) just because its become normal and socially acceptable does not make it morally or ethically right.
I dont agree with what the Prophet (SAW) did but it is not my place or anyone elses to judge him and his motives. He was a great man and if anyone took the time to do the proper reasearch they would see that.

Girls at the age 7, 8, or 9 don't have yet period, so they are not women but children. Are you pedophile or what?
Girls get her first period at the age 13 or even older. And even if they get it, that doesn't mean they are women yet. Physically they maybe are women, but not emotionally or sociologically. So, women can be responsible for her life at the age 18 and not sooner.

personally i have nothing against arabic peninsula and all the traditions. But your very last comment where you mention that 1 of 4 little girls get raped by their fathers shows me just how much you don't know about other cultures, it's a false statement...

There are lots of bizarre and outdated ideas that used to circulate because of lack of education, prejudice, isolation and tribalism.
