Please help, my mother asked me to find out how to cook/make a good toffee apple. She only likes the red ones - I don't know if there is a difference to the flavour if the colour is different.
Thank you in advance for all your help and I hope recipes.

Kid-friendly recipe:

INGREDIENTS:

 6 tart apples
 6 wooden sticks
 1 cup sugar
 1/2 cup water
 1 tablespoon butter
 2 tablespoon brown rice syrup

DIRECTIONS:

Push the wooden sticks halfway into the apples at the stalk end. Place the sugar and water in a pan and dissolve the sugar over a low heat.

Add the butter and syrup and bring to the boil. Boil without stirring until the toffee reaches the soft-crack stage or 290C - measure this on the sugar thermometer. Dip each apple into the toffee, one by one. Make sure each apple is well coated and leave to harden on a baking try lined with baking parchment.

red ones are candied apples not toffee.........

Candied Apples

Cook Time: 20 Minutes Ready In: 30 Minutes
Yields: 8 servings

"Apples perched on sticks, coated in cinnamon candy, great for Halloween!"
INGREDIENTS:
8 apples
3 cups white sugar
1/2 cup white corn syrup 1/2 cup water
8 cinnamon red hot candies
1 teaspoon red food coloring

DIRECTIONS:
1. Insert a wooden craft stick into the bottom of each apple. Butter a baking sheet and set aside.
2. Combine sugar, corn syrup and water in a heavy saucepan over medium heat. Heat, without stirring, to 270 to 290 degrees F (132 to 143 degrees C), or until a small amount of syrup dropped into cold water forms hard but pliable threads. Remove from heat and stir in candies and food coloring until just mixed.
3. Holding each apple by its stick, quickly twirl in syrup, tilting pan to cover apple. Lift out of syrup, turning to allow drips to adhere to apple. Place apples on prepared baking sheet to cool completely.

1) Use red skinned apples
2) Add food colour to the toffee syrup

Instead of treacle make a sugar syrup and add cochineal and add a drop of vanilla.
Don't overdo the colour.
