My God daughter recently had a baby, and would like to go back to school (trade school college). Due to complications with her pregnancy she was terminated from her job because she couldn't take the extra time off. For the past month she has been on welfare. I know there are 2 types of finacial aide programs pell and something else. The other one she has to be 24 to be considered "independent" she's 21. so she will need her parents tax returns, they make alooot of money but don't support her in any way. the pell grant she will be considered independent and can claim her daughter as a dependent. does anyone know if being a welfare recipient gives you more financial aide assistance? does it even matter if she's on it. I see so many others getting school paid for by welfare. I'm just trying to help her by gathering some info to help encourage her to get out of the system. she wants to improve her life, not stay stuck on food stamps....helpful comments are welcomed, so are stupid ones.

Under the Welfare Reform Act of 1996, United States President Bill Clinton signed a bill having a component to welfare that would enable welfare clients to attend school. It is an idea to approach your welfare caseworker about this program. Another source is talk to the school's or college's financial aid office because they know the financial aid system well. Third, it might still be an idea to still file FAFSA.ed.gov because there is a question about if there is a minor child who lives with the applicant. Finally, there are free membership scholarship search websites. Good luck!

The good thing about your God daughters situation is she has you helping her backing her and helping her obtain her goals. The other good thing is while attending college, financial aid is based on "financial NEED", with that being said your God daughter has a very good chance of getting assistance.

Not to mention there are Stafford loans she can take out (very low interest rates) If she does take out a loan make sure it is the loan that does not start adding interest until AFTER graduation. The payments will be low...

I take the unsubsidized loan out every semester. I also get financial assistance, as I am so close to graduation I quit my job and just go to school now. Remind your God daughter Good grades means lots of free Scholarship money!! I get over 1500.00 a semester in just scholarships.

Best of Luck, first place to start is going to talk to a career counselor at her school of choice they will give you both the next step in the process.

Hope this helps ;) !

In prepare it would be impossible. The welfare fraud now could be astronomical. IF it must be applied, perhaps that could provide incentive for those on the rolls to stand up and strengthen their difficulty. style of like that relax human beings do as quickly as we would like a cellular, telephone or a flat show, on a advantageous bottle of wine. We circulate out, make some money and purchase them. Novel thought and particular not laptop honest, yet wow ,if provided that!

yes it does, because what she gets in cash benefits will be considered income and the majority of the pell grant(that you don't pay back) is given to the neediest applicants in the form of full tuition. also she can file taxes against that income and get a decent return from earned income tax credit.
