How much should I expect to pay a babysitter -- high school age -- per hour to watch my 5 year old? We live in Hawaii, if that makes any difference.

I used to babysit alot when I was younger along with some of my friends, and still do,

Most people pay about $5 per hour or so, that's what is usually expected...... in the average situation at least....

for us it was usually $5 per hour, per kid....

also it depends on the hours and such too, what time of day, if the hours go way late into the night or if you are having her watch your 5 yr old for more than like 6 hrs or so, you might want to add a little more, also depends on the kid ^_~; (i.e. it's alot more work to watch a 5 yr old who literally bounces off the wall and is out of control as oppossed to the rare ones who sit quietly and play by themselves etc...)

I probably wouldnt go higher than like $8 an hr or so though for one kid

Depends on if they will feed them dinner and get ready for bed change diapers and how many kids and the age. I say when I babysat I got paid 10 an hour at age 13 in Washington but that was with three kids back in the 90's. Just depends on what you are going to have the sitter do and how many hours.

i think of it relies upon. in my opinion, if that's somebody coming over just to babysit for a night out, i'd probable pay $7 for one youngster, $8 for 2. (I stay in Buffalo BTW, if that concerns). If that's extra of an entire time caretaker, and that they could do food, naps, various diapers, some family members chores, and so on., then $10 is somewhat properly worth it and not a rip off in any respect. besides the undeniable fact that, you're saying sturdy pal of the family members. I used to babysit plenty (and now a mom of two), and if it became a relative or sturdy pal, i'd actually no longer value plenty, if something, if it became each now and then element.

The area you live in does make a difference, you might also ask around to highschoolers or their parents and find out how much they charge, here in my part of California they usually get around $5.00 an hour for one or two children, $10.00 an hour for more than two.

It makes a difference that you live in Hawaii, I think you should try to negotiate a flat rate if that is not possible try $7.00 per hour

My daughter gets 10.00 hr. When I was a kid I only got about 2 or 3.00 hr. Times have changed. If my daughter is babysitting for a family member or someone who doesn't have alot of money she tells them to give her what they can afford.
