They're baby surrogates. Just be glad the psychos aren't breeding little bitty clones of themselves.
That's truly frightening.
I have a friend that holds her dog on her hip like a baby and sings it lullabies! Yeah, rocks it to sleep with a lullaby! She jiggles it like you see moms do with babies. She dresses it in baby clothes too. Complete with shoes, hats and jewelry.
She says she can't afford a baby, but she spends so much on the dog, it's probably the same difference!

I also have a chihuahua and agree with Hanna. Because these dogs are so little their metabolism is different and cannot produce alot of heat like other dogs. A coat or sweater is in order to help keep their body temperature up. I do put a sweater on my little guy in the early AM and evening, also in winter. Although I do agree that some people are excessive with this and get carried away with costumes etc...Don't be quick to think its stupid when you see a chi with a sweater/coat on, it truely helps them stay warm. Also whats wrong with someone holding their dog or cat??Its a form of affection, why get a pet if your not going to love it and show affection????

I used to think it was dump too to dress dogs with a sweater, until I got my first tiny chihuahua. These dogs are so small, that they get very cold, so the vet recommended to have her with a sweater on cold weather, so my little chihuahua almost all the time is wearing a sweater and it isn't because I'm ridiculous or dump it is for her health.

Because they concider their pet as one of their family. Placing a sweater on a small dog after it has been trimmed is not really dumb. It keeps them warm. If let to go, Poodles would really be a hairy mess. They need baths and trims and they are really sweet little guys and gals and they do show their appreciation. You should see one of them after they are prettied up. They show their happiness.

My dear seeker of knowledge, the answer is at its most simplistic level is as follows: These people are stoopid! Or maybe these rat/dogs are a substitute for children they don't/will not have or did not have, or simply they view these living creatures as toys for their amusement. Having said that, some dogs fur does not generate sufficient protection from cold and sunburn and thus puppy shirts are required... But cowboy hats and chaps!? Ludicrous!
Quite frankly, only one thing seems worse, and that is allowing celebrities to name their own children.
P. S. I let my dog ride in the front seat so he can stick his head out the window and it lets me be sure that he's not chewing the seats or the carpet, or any wiring that he may find... Stupid, spoiled brat dog!

Being a cat lover (cats would not put up with such nonsense), I don't really get it either. I guess they just love their dog so much they treat them like a member of the family, but really, the front seat of the car thing is very dangerous.

these people treat their pets like they're a member of the family. I dont see anything wrong with it. They love their dogs and want to show them off to the world. I wish everyone loved and cared for their pets like that!!
