I'm sure there's a reason for this custom, but what exactly is it? I just find it odd. If anyone can provide an answer, and maybe a source to back it up, please do so.
:D

I don't mean to sound annoying, but please provide sources if you can. Otherwise, I'm just running on opinions that I may have heard before, and not actually gaining a true answer.

This allows you to start the digestion of the more nutritious components of your meal. It also slows the absorption of the sugar from your dessert preventing large and rapid changes in your blood glucose levels. (or so said Alfred Bushway, Professor of Food Science)

Desserts are sweet food; this common myth is not appropriate. Fruits are the perfect matches as a closing course item of a meal. Its carry mineral, vitamins and fiber. If people fulfill their meal with a large portion of this type dessert, obviously that diet would be more balanced. As fruit’s tests are sweet, sour, some bitter, it might create appetite imbalance if it takes before or in the middle of meal course. But this is not hard and fast rule though.
There is a notable quote, “Life is uncertain. Eat dessert first." Ernestine Ulmer.

The blast of sugar tells your brain that you have had enough. Better a tiny bit of dessert than none at all. Just to send the signal that dinner's done, I'm full, It is supposed to help with dieting, it can be a sweet taste than is artificial, too, I think

Well, this is what I've heard about eating a piece of chocolate after a good dinner:
Apparently after eating a good dinner, eating something sweet or something that has a sugary substance causes the reactions in your stomach to digest faster due to the suddenly added sugar. Because of this faster acting reaction, you lose some weight.
...but I'm not too sure how accurate it really is. It's just a small lttle tid bit I learned somewhere, and it always helps me justify eating something sweet after dinner. :)

well, you should eat dessert first, because if dessert is the last thing that you eat for the day (bc dessert is typically eaten with dinner), if dessert id the last thing that you eat, then all of the sugar may turn to fat. It is also helpful to eat salad last bc it helps the digestive system.

Music makes you eat more. According to a study by the journal Psychology and Marketing, soft, classical tunes encourage that you take time over your meal, so you consume more food. So, switch off – silence will always make you more aware of what you’re setting up your mouth.

Acquire smaller plates. Little crockery means portion control is a lot easier – those diminutive helpings suddenly look huge and you’ll be happier to eat less.

Well you want to eat a nice healthy meal, then most people usually crave something sweet after a salty meal, so I,m to gather that,s the reasoning, I know I always want something sweet later after dinner.
