Tae Kwon Do is a great stress reliever but I think the most meditation I got from it was in stretching and warming up. It is an excellent way to learn to kick butt most definitely but where possible work with the bags because Tae Kwon Do is a non contact sport in training when it comes to contact it can backfire on you.

Yes. The same could be said for most of the asian fighting arts. As for using them as a from of meditation, most of the Chinese styles are better suited to that than other systems, especially the Shao Lin styles....and oddly enough...kicking but can relieve a LOT of stress, it's what keeps me sane.....

Only if you really dedicate yourself to either side of it. I think it should start mentally... focussing on movements, strength, agility, endurance... thats the meditation part starting... focus on one thing. Kicking but comes as your movements get faster and you learn where your own power comes from. And anything that uses both your body and mind will relieve stress(spirit)

Depends on the instructor. Some only teach baic moves, but a good one teaches the meditation and disciplines which will releive stress.

Tae Qwan Do is a mental and physical strengthener. It is a type of meditation by physical exercise, and is not meant to be used other than as self defense.

well when you first take any martial arts class, the first thing they will teach you is -- to be disciplined. for without discipline u cannot acheive harmony in life.
well i did take some Taek-won-du Classes long back just for security reasons but i should add that in my country i hardly had to use it. maybe but now that i have shifted to Tai-chi -- i feel its really cool -- it is martial arts combined with slow movements that really gives one a sense of harmony. i use to take Tai-Chi classes from long time and it really helps me to get rid of all the negativities i get from a FEW people i meet. it also helps me to discipline my self.
for kick-butting try Kick Boxing -- it really helps.

Anything is a meditation as long as it has your complete focus. Walking is one of my favorites, I picture a path of sprouting flowers that I am leaving behind.
