No it's not unusual it's stupid. I know that sounds insulting but I didn't mean to. Never, ever share an account with a lover, most of the time they will control your pay, what to do with it and one day, hopefully not on end of the month she decides you should go your separate ways then what? For a peace of mind get your own account, believe me you'll sleep much better. Just tell her, honey this was a temporary arrangement, I don't mean to offend you but I have opened my new account it my pay will be going there starting from the end of the month". Maybe you're more creative than me so....

Does she give you and allowance ? Are you not good at budgeting your money ? Your a big boy now... get your own account. If you already have one..use it. What if you guys break up, she walks away with your hard earned money. If you are living with her and share the expenses then figure out what your half would be and write her a check for that amount. That's how my fiance and I do it. This way there is no question when it comes to money.

My husband and I did the same thing before we got married. I dont think its unusual. Times have changed, specially if you two live togeather and/or have children. Theres nothing wrong with it as long as you get to say where the money gos and of course that you get some! It would be wrong if she wasent working, didnt have kids to take care of and was taking every cent you had and blowing it on crap! Now that I would have to put a stop to! But if your simply doing it because you "need" to then thats your business!

Absolutely. Unless it is a joint account, you could be setting yourself up for some SERIOUS problems. You at LEAST need to make sure your name is listed as a signer, because if it's not, you can't get to the money you've earned if you try.

The key word here is girlfriend. That means casual, not permanent, easy to get rid of. Why would you want to give her control of your pay and she could dump you tomorrow. It could take months to stop direct deposit.

You both should keep both of your own separate accounts! There is no valid reason for it to be otherwise! Your asking for problems!

Yeah she'll leave with all your money if she wants to. Best to marry her and let her be your wife.
