I want to sell my 2004 VW GTi VR6. It's in very good condition, very low mileage, but dealerships are obviously offering an insulting amount for it, which is what dealerships do, right?

So I'm looking for creative ways to sell it, and to maximise the amount I get for it. Have listed on cars.com and craig's list, but kinda out of ideas after that.

What's the best way to sell my car?

i'm a a proud ebayer. and the beauty of it is that you can set a minimum reserve. my friend bought a used range rover on ebay and she loves it. yes, ebay is going to take a small chunk of your sale price, but you can figure it into the price :) the key to selling a car on ebay is making sure you supply the carfax report to the prospective buyers. people want to be sure that the car is not a wreck. there are alot of used car dealers selling cars on ebay for ridiculously low prices (b/c they can't get them off their lot), so you have to make your car unique to a target buyer. and the bidding has to be perfectly low enough to attract people, but perfectly high enough to get what you expect. i suggest during a search for the make of model of your car, and see how many there are, and what they have been selling for. DEFINITELY use the feature of searching "completed listings" to see what that make and model has sold for in the past on ebay, if at all.

the reason why ebay is so great b/c it combines two american forces 1) wanting to get a good deal, but also 2) the competitive nature of wanting to win! alot of people (including myself) have ended up paying more for an item than anticipated, just b/c we wanted to win the auction! :)

long story short, try ebay :) there's a reason why it's so popular. good luck.

The best thing to do would be to buy a couple of sledgehammers and sell tickets at say five bucks each and allow the ticket holders to whack your silly car. This would accomplish a couple of things: first, it would take one more stupid automobile off the road and, second, you would be able to raise some money for a public transit pass, allowing you to move about in a more relaxed state while lessening your effect on the environment. Think about the hours you will spend reading or writing or just looking out the window instead of being stuck in a steel and glass box surrounded by other similar boxes carting other unhappy people. Cars are dead; contribute to a better future. You will notice right away how much better you look and feel. Best wishes!!

I've sold 2 cars on Ebay, take good pictures of it that show all features and angles as people want to know that you're not hiding anything. 9 shots showing the 360 degrees around the car, picture of the engine/interior, trunk. List all features, take ideas off other ebay cars to help you out. But, ebay buyers are good for cars that are considered collectible or popular. Yours should sell for a good price if it is all that you say it is.

Make sure you personalize your ebay listing, don't sound like a dealership when you do it.

Good luck.

Forget the dealerships, they will rip you off blindly.

First try putting a poster on your rear window to see if you get any bites. Make sure you put the price so that you dont get calls just to find out the price.

Also, Im not sure if you have an Auto Trader in your country. Its a magazine for cars on sale. like a classified with pictures. I sold my car in there within the first 3 calls. Its a bit expensive but its worth it.

You could try going to Kelly Blue Book (kbb.com), and finding out how much the car is worth, then list the car in the newspaper, or in special car-sales newspapers with the amount kbb suggests. Good luck!

If you are in Great Britain, yes, it is!! If the car is on finance, it is wholly owned by the finance company, until the debt is totally paid off. Therefore, it cannot be legally sold until the finance is cleared. The law may well be different in the U.S.A., but this is Y!A U.K. and Ireland, after all...

I recommend www.autotrader.com, as far as I know thats the most well known site. I've purchased cars from there before. Also, why not try your local paper?
