i am a swimmer. i swim 4 out of 7 days a week; one and a half hours a day. Swim practice is strenuous activity. but i feel as though i am not benefiting from it at all.

my stomach is flat, my arms are fine, the problem is my upper thighs (as well as my inner thighs), for some reason i just can't lose the excess weight. i recently put myself on a well balanced diet, and @ times its really hard to keep up with it. but i'm pushing myself because i really want to get rid of the thigh weight.

on top of this, i feel so gross standing in a bathing suit. everybody on my swimteam has a perfect athletic built, except for me...my thighs are flabby. Everything i do doesn't seem to work, but i'm still hopeful.

any reccomendations? thanks so much.

There is no treatment for reducing thigh weight or fat by medicine or excersise or by diet control. it is the shape of your body and you can achieve what you want is by cosmic surgery only.

Liposuction, also known as lipoplasty ("fat modeling"), liposculpture or suction lipectomy ("suction-assisted fat removal") is a cosmetic surgery operation which removes fat from many different sites on the human body. Areas affected can range from the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, to neck, backs of the arms and elsewhere. The fat is usually removed via a cannula (a hollow tube) and aspirator (a suction device).

While exercise and dieting may be useful for losing unwanted weight and fat, some fat deposits may not respond to efforts at weight loss. Applying liposuction techniques may be an option in these situations. Liposuction is not a low-effort alternative to exercise and diet. It is a form of body contouring with significant attendant risks and is not a weight loss method. The amount of fat removed varies by doctor, method, and patient, but the average amount is typically less than 10 pounds (5 kg).

There are several factors that limit the amount of fat that can be safely removed in one session. Ultimately, the operating physician and the patient make the decision. There are negative aspects to removing too much fat. Unusual "lumpiness" and/or "dents" in the skin can be seen in those patients "over-suctioned". The more fat removed the higher the surgical risk.

Reports of people removing 50 pounds (22.7 kg) of fat are exaggerated. However, the contouring possible with liposuction may cause the appearance of weight loss to be greater than the actual amount of fat removed. The procedure may be performed under general or local ("tumescent") anesthesia. The safety of the technique relates not only to the amount of tissue removed, but to the choice of anesthetic and the patient's overall health. It is ideal for the patient to be as fit as possible before the procedure and to have given up smoking for several months.

As a couple people mentioned on here, you can not lose fat in a specific area, by doing more work on that area. This is a very common misconception. There are two major factors that determine where a person loses weight from, and where they store more fat, genetics, and gender. Women tend to store more fat in there hips and thighs, and men tend to store it in their abdominal region. The good news for you ladies out there is a little bit of thigh fat is actually healthy since it absorbs fat from the blood. Belly fat on the other hand is dangerous and what causes the most health problems. If you want to lose weight in your thighs, you are just going to have to lose weight period. It will come off your thighs too, but probably not first. Stick to a solid exercise plan, eat healthyand whole foods, and stick with it. If you want more diet advice ill leave a few websites below. On the point of gaining muscle in your legs, the only way i can see that happening with your training schedule is if you are running a lot of hills, doing a lot of heaving leg exercises (heavy squats, heavy leg ext. etc.). If you stick to lower weights higher reps, you will be ok. you will get stronger and more toned legs, but you wont build a whole lot of bulk. good luck (sorry for the bad news about spot training)

try putting in some time doing another aerobic activity. it could be that your body is so used to the strenous swimming that it's "learned" to swim even with the weight. you could swim 3-4 days a week and then walk on another one or two days, and give yourself at least one day off a week. or you could try jogging, since that's good for working out your leg muscles.

also, try doing some mat work. you know, those exercises where you lie on your side and raise your legs. if you're not sure how to do those, ask someone who knows. they work the muscles in the inner and outer thighs so that when you do lose the extra weight, your thighs will be firm and not flabby.

one more thing...are you sure it's not just in your head? i know plenty of girls with beautiful physiques who insist that their tummies stick out too much, or their ankles are too thick, or their behinds are sagging, etc. we are our own biggest critics, and keep in mind that no one is perfect.

good luck!

It could be Your genetics that are defining your Thigh Size!
(In which case you'll have to come to terms with that!)

Or Maybe swimming is Building Muscles in the Thigh??(In which case cut back on swimming!)
In my Opinion a Cycle ride has many Health benefits and trim your Butt as well as your Thighs!
Give it a Go! What's to lose?

hi....I was also into swimming and i was a district level swimmer.
Swimming often brings a lot of excellent stamina and power in u'r entire body.As the problem which u have stated of having excess of fat in u'r upper thigh region could also be related to genetics. As u have tried to maintain u'r diet,u would do exercise but one when u leave exercise it will become more than the origin size.

See a doctor and ask him/her about, some fat removal procedure like liposuction. And do it under medical supervision.

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!

Get started today!

Unfortunately, you can't spot-reduce. That means you can't just burn off fat in one particular part of your body. Fat melts off anywhere it wants to. Doing cardio will definitely speed up the process. Of course with the combination of resistance training like using machines and barbells. That will build lean body tissue and replace the fat. The lean muscle will weigh more than the fat, but take up less space which is why it looks toned and so good!

Talk with a personal trainer. Those are the places that are the hardest to slim down.
