Literacy is not the litmus test for salvation nor will illiteracy keep people out of heaven. What matters is that their sins have been paid for. If they have truly repented and asked forgiveness through Jesus for their sins, they will go to heaven. People who can't read can still love Jesus. Rickbgp38 hit the nail on the head about the Scripture being read to people who can't read.

For those of you tempted to post that only illiterates believe the Bible, remember that church fathers since the time of the Apostles have been some of the most brilliant thinkers in history. Do a little research before you decide to rant.

Actually, He didn't make sure the Bible was accurate. Scripture has been distorted by many different groups claiming to translate, when only manipulating the texts, even falsifying in order to support their own unbiblical doctrines. Sadly, many are lead astray every day by these books claiming to be the Bible. We only have accurate scripture because thankfully their are still some honest scholars truly seeking to translate God's Word as closely as possible to it's original form. I don't believe the Bible's texts have been supernaturally preserved. Therefore cannot seek to hold God accountable for the illiterate.

Who ever told you that the Bible is accurate? Which Bible? What translation? Come on now, there are dozens of reputable translations; but since most of the original texts are long gone, and no one living was there to testify to details, just get the jist of it and don't put so much stock in some of the fine points.

Point of New Testament: Accept Christ into your heart and mind of the Son of God, and that he is the Savior. That is the point, the rest of it is partial history, partial teaching lessons, etc.

If you want a book on science, or of perfect history, the Bible is not the book to read. Pity me, though, just think of all the hate mail that will arrive this afternoon......

Before the Civil War, most all public education was church based and literacy was the primary interest. Calvinists first started public education in America so people could read, specifically the Bible. All the Ive League schools (save U Penn) were started to train clergy.

If God wrote it, why do they call it the 'King James Bible'.
The English language did not exist when the bible was written, so I assume almost every Christian is illiterate when it comes to reading the folk tales they consider so important.

But hey, they believe in imaginary, invisible beings - how far do you think logic will get you with them?
