I am in the military and my first enlistment is up. It has been a goal of mine go get a college degree since in joined. The military offers to pay for your college while you are in, but there is a catch. You can take classes only when you not busy. Like if you are about to go on deployment don't bother singing up for a class unless it is an on-line class (not to knock on-line classes but they are just not for me). If I stay in the military and try to finish my degree I can probably finish it in about 4 or 5 years. (That’s only 2 yrs of college because I have 2 yrs complete)

ok Elle first i have been in the military for 5 yrs but u r still going though trainning. U would be stupid not to think about what u are going to do when you get out ie COLLEGE. Unless u just want to be a damper on society. Thus don't even think about questioning why i joined for one sec. If u still think u have something to why don't u join a real service like Marine Corps then maybe your words will hold some value

I have 100% paid tuition in the NC National Guard, but that's not why I joined. I joined because I want to contribute to the War on Terror. I think too many people join for the paid tuition and bonus and crap like that. If you don't believe in the U.S. or its president or its causes, joining just to get your tuition paid is like selling your soul.

Joining the military just because they will pay for your school is a bad reason to join in the first place. Yes, at this point in time you can get 100% paid tuition, but the problem is having the time. You are always a soldier of the US military first. As far as Iraq, no matter where you you get assigned, chances are that you will still get deployed if you are in a career field that is necessary over there. But you will still have the chance to get college courses in even while deployed. And remember this above anything else, once you sign the contract your plans all become susceptible to the needs of the military. I recently joined the Air Force and also face a tour in Iraq, so I did research on the subject. I hope this helps.

Hello, I was in the Navy and I know that you Dogs look down on us, but let it go. Did you prepare and save your money??? It's going to be hard to find another job getting what get with only a two year degree. The Marines is the hardest military but the question is, did you find a decent job. Go with your heart because if you are ask if you should get out I don't think you prepared. May God Bless you and take care.

My boyfriend joined the Army so that he could have money to go to college, but his recruiter screwed him over and put down that he was RE-ENLISTING instead of enlisting (which is impossible becasue he joined the Army at 17!!!). Because of this, when he tried to get money for college, he was inelligable. So the only reason I would ever join the military is if I really wanted to ruin my life for nothing in return.

Been there...done that...have the MBA to show for it. Sorry, OU didn't give out t-shirts.

I was an artillery officer and my second year in I used the in service GI Bill which paid for everything but parking when I had to travel to other military bases or the OU campus. It took about 18 months to earn my MBA on by off duty time.

I have never been in the military but if someone offered to pay my tuition for a short term commitment I'd be there. So many kids come out of university so far in debt it will take them years to see get out. What's wrong with doing a trade off?

I would probably regard the college classes as a bonus, but first decide "Do I want to join the military?"

My friend, the catch is when you are not busy. Do you think you have time for the next two years ?

For the Afghan and iraq, I don't see solution for the next two years.

If the NKorea goes, I don't see any solution for the next 5 years.

By that time, You will be in the late 20's, given you are not killed or crippled.

Anyway, it is great to see that you have your vision and ambition to go to college.

Good luck to you!
