I would go with something that is going to contrast the color on the wall so that the room isn't to dark. If the room is small then I would go with a cream color or pale yellow, something like that. If the room is larger you could go with an eggplant or maroon color. If you are going for contemporary I would suggest the cream or eggplant. The yellow or maroon may give off to much of a country cottage look if the shape of the couch isn't comtemporay enough. Also, if the room is large enough you could go with black leather but you want a good size room for this. Ikea has reasonably priced furniture and most of it is contemporay but I am not sure about the quality. I would try someplace like Rooms To Go, Havertys or The Room Store. They will have a large selection of different styles and multiple choices in what ever style you choose. If you are just wanting to add to your existing furniture then I would definately go with either cream or black leather that way it doesn't blend in, but won't stand out to much. Good Luck and have fun shopping!!!

Is it a light sage or dark sage? I painted my living room a mushroom color (tan) and a green. When I put my entertainment center - which is a medium color wood - up against the green it really popped the furniture and make it more noticeable. I love it.

I have a sage family room...I have denim furniture and pine tables....wood blinds and pine trim....
A living room may need to be for formal...You can go with white or cream then use some great colorful pillows! along with a dark pine or other wood for your tables.

If the entire room is sage (including flooring) I would go with a medium walnut wood - and use light accent pieces and light pillows. Choose one main base color that compliments your sage (like walnut) - and then I'd select a CONTRASTING accent light an orange fabric. It all depends upon your theme and if you want it casual, formal, elegant or funky/retro!

A deep espresso color would be beautiful. I also have sage walls with cream carpet. I have brown leather furniture and tables. I use cream and coral pillows on my couches and coral accents throughout. The coral really makes it "pop". Good luck to you!~

light pine wood,or for a richer look try cherry wood...black painted furniture is fading out in todays market,as well as glass topped tables, solid wood is the way to go..

Deep chocolate would be really nice.
The contrasts would bring the eye up to the lighter walls and then give the room a bigger feel.

I like cherry. It glows a beautiful orange, especially if there is good sunlight.
