The compilation of the Christian New Testament was a long and complex process with many writings gathered and many declined. There were many early Christian writing that were left out of the NT for various reasons, they may have been unorthodox, or they may not have been known to the ancient fathers at the councils. Information and books took alot longer to to the rounds in the first century. There are many of these 'excluded' gnostic and non-gnostic writings to be found in the non-canonical homepage. However, many of these were written after the fourth century and do not reflect authentic first century Palestine. Yet they do give a brilliant look into the life of the early church. One must remember that these were written at a time when Christians did not have a 'NT.'
We define modern Christianity by they way they read and point to 'proof texts' from their NT but imagine what life was like for three hundred years without an agreed upon canon of books for the New Testament.

I'm not saying that there aren't andy valid ancient writings that are not included the Bible. But I think that the reason the childhood of Jesus is not detailed in the Bible is simply because really the emphasis is on Jesus' ministry from the time he was babtised, until he ascended into Heaven. He probably performed an occasional miracle, like changing water into wine, but the main point of the Gospels was the story of his ministry. I also think there are some good details in there such as his ancestry which is traced back to Adam(!), and there is mention of other things which establish the fact that he knew who he was early on. There's good details about his birth. The writers of the Gospels say that they could fill volumes of books with all the miracles that he performed in his ministry, so they were focused on including as much of that detail as possible, and not including trivial matters about things that he said or did, which i'm sure were profound when he was a child.
Some day I hope to be able to ask Him about his childhood.
I think you should beware of false teachings that are not in the Bible.

Almost impossible to find, either A) Never really written by "prophets" B) Jesus didn't really do what people said he did and the writers of the books in the bible never considered that point. The bible as we know now was compiled I about the year 400 if I remember correctly, and books were kept and thrown out by political figures in Rome in order to keep what they felt would control people the best. Jesus most likely did not have any significance as a historical figure more than a few years before his crucifixion, and thus was never written about.

The Infancy Gospel of Thomas found in The Lost Books of The Bible is what you're referring to, I think.
However, it has pretty well been proven these texts were written well after the first century, into the second and third, and some unknown author/s put Thomas' name to it. The text itself is also a little unsettling in places where it describes the child Jesus forming animals from mud to play with and performing a miracle of bringing them to life just to play with. In another place another young boy his age makes him mad so he kills him with his divine powers.
They're interesting reading....but not Holy canoncial sacred scripture. That is why they are not in the Bible.

Most of the apocrypha (books not in the bible) were creations of the gnostics- a 3rd century cult with a radical view of God, particularly that of God as an evil force that goads us into self-realization or self-improvement. Their ideas do not belong in Christianity because they contradict Jesus's descriptions of God the Father. The absence of these manuscripts help feed people's conspiracy theories about the Bible.
It makes for interesting reading, though. Have fun.

my guess is you type that in and hit search you will get what you want. There is a book of that title L BotB, I read it in 85. They run a special about them on the History channel every so often... Some of what you speak of is in the Qu'ran, The Christians who lived in Ethiopia preserved a few and they put them In their Bible,,, thats all i got and after reading them I must say they added nothing to what a close reading of oyur Bible will tell you, coarse if you depend on anothers reading and telling you, you will miss a lot.

The History Channel has covered this alot. The "Book of Thomas" is the Gospel written after Thomas died (about 100 years after) which teaches about Jesus as a kid. (Gnostic)
Here is one theory not covered by the history channel: http://reluctant-messenger.com/issa.htm

Don't ask for more scriptures unless you understand the ones that are givin you. It's kinda like asking for more food, when you didn't eat what was givin to you before. But ya know...if you find out, I'd be interested in reading it too. The more I get to know Him, the more I understand...I see a bigger picture.

Do a google search for "lost books of the bible", "gospel of mary magdelene", and "missing gospels". You'll find a lot of links to books that the church deemed inappropriate, or presented differing views of what they wanted to say...
