For all of the quick weight loss diet pill suggestions, remember, if something sounds too good to be true... it probably is, particularly if you have to buy something. Here are some aggressive but realistic ideas on diet (not just veggies all the time) and exercise.
On Yahoo!Answers I find certain questions being asked repeatedly which is simply a reflection of new people participating. A couple of common question amounts to "How do I lose weight," or more specifically, "How do I lose abdominal fat?" I have gotten very positive responses from my answers when I paused to reply (and now beginning to get "It works!" emails that are very gratifying. I like helping people)... so have recently decided to put a good solid answer on my Yahoo!360 Blog (September 10) that I can point people to. These are my thoughts as a physician and athlete.
Don't target losing more than about 2 lbs per week. If you try to lose faster, your body will go into "starvation mode" and get very stingy about burning calories while at the same time very efficient about storing any calories that you do provide. And it will make you feel awful.
There is no site specific way of losing fat... the old myth about working your abs to burn belly fat isn't true. To get rid of love handles, you need to lose overall fat. That happens with exercise and watching your diet. More on that below.
The most effective way to lose fat is aerobic exercise in the "moderate" fat-burning range, ideally first thing in the morning before you eat. When you wake your body is ready to burn fat and your levels of growth hormone are highest at that time. Later in the day it can take up to 30 minutes just to put your body into a fat-burning mode.
Another overlooked way to burn fat is by lifting weights. Skeletal muscle has very high caloric needs... almost twice that of adipose (fat) tissue. Put on a little muscle and you will burn calories all day even at rest. Be aware that skeletal muscle weighs more, so with this approach you may see your weight increasing while your body fat is melting away. Not realizing this often stresses folks who think they should be losing weight as a measure of fitness. Forget the scale, look in the mirror and you will be happy.
To lose a pound of fat, you need to eliminate about 3500 calories. You can do this by burning more with exercise or by modifying your diet to reduce intake. If you do a Google search on say, "swimming calories" you will quickly find a website with tables of calories burned for a given exercise. You can use such lists to estimate how many calories you are burning up with your routine.
For diet, keep a diary for a couple of weeks counting calories, grams of protein, and grams of fat intake. It is easy with online sources of nutritional information (type the name of the food and calories into the Google search engine) and packaging labels. That will let you quickly figure out where the fat is coming from in your diet.
Fat gives you 9 calories per gram. So take the number of grams of fat, multiply by 9, then calculate what percentage the fat calories are of your total daily calories. Restricting the calories from fat to about 20% of your total intake is ideal for a maintenance diet... that isn't overly restrictive. Of note, you need some fat in your diet. For instance, the body uses fat to produce hormones. Once you have a picture of how to modify your diet, you can drop the diary and just go back to it occasionally if you are wanting to tweek things further.
There is a subset of questions that goes further and asks about "How to get a six-pack?" The answer is the same. Six-packs are 20% abdominal exercise and 80% diet. There is one caveat... abdominal muscles will form in the position that you work them, so be certain to pull them tightly toward your spine while doing crunches, etc. Also, during most lifting, the "core is active" which means that you should be stabilizing with contracted abs then too. Fail to do this and the abs will form, but bulging outward and the result is not attractive.
If you are trying to build muscle as a way to lose fat, then you may need to increase total calories and specifically your protein intake. I target about 0.8 g of protein per pound of body weight each day when actively building. That is far more protein than most people need in their diets.

I used to weigh 245 pounds at my heaviest and now I weigh about 210. I lost 35 pounds (in 4 months) by cutting out the sugar, and most of the carbs. I made sure to read labels for the words enriched, hydrogenated.* AND by getting put on Glucophage, (usually prescribed for diabetics but has been shown to aide in weight loss) I am not diabetic but it worked.
That was 3 years ago. Recently I went down another size in clothes, not by dieting or loosing weight, by excercising at something I enjoy... Water aerobics at my local YMCA. My husband has lost 60 lbs and counting. He was put on diabetic medicine (he is diabetic). He limits his portions (like those single serving containers for applesauce). He eats only when he's hungry and eats slower. He HATES veggies but he will eat homemade veggie soup (less chance of bad additives). Stay away from potatoes and peas. They're loaded with bad carbs and shoot your glucose levels to the moon. Go to your doctor and make sure your thyroid and your insulin levels are in the right range. There are a lot of health issues that can cause obesity. If he is unwilling to test you or listen, find another doctor. Too many doctors just scream at you to "LOOSE WEIGHT!!" My husbands diabetes almost went undiagnosed because his routine labs (glucose) came back fine(he went through 3 doctors who missed it). Thank god the last doctor did a glucose tolerance test and found the problem before he resorted to gastric bypass surgery. The doctor told him he would be dead in 5 years if he didn't loose weight.

There are various ways to go about weight-loss, from strict calorie-counting to watching carbs and glucose content, but eventually, even if you're doing a low-carb thing, the bottom line does revolve around calories in = calories out. The reason that eating veggies is helpful in a weight-loss diet is that they pack more bang for the buck, so to speak. With leafy green veggies, you're getting most of the nutrients your body needs, and getting full, with a very small fraction of the calories that other foods provide. So you're going to have to include them. Cut down on sugar but you don't need to cut it out completely. Fats should be kept under 60 grams a day, way under, and try and replace "bad" fats like fats from dairy and transfats with olive oil and flax oil. Excercise burns calories and therfore allows you to eat more. Every body is different, but you could try cutting down on (or cutting out) breads, which are pretty empty calories and full of carbs.

Eat a balanced, conservative diet, like eat until you aren't hungry, maybe satisfied, but never until you are full. Exercise, working out will burn fat, dieting doesn't. Exercising makes me hungrier, so I am considering trying Hoodia (Hoodia gordonii) to suppress my appetite. Some people eat vegies all the time because it makes them feel full without a lot of calories.
I liked Weight Watchers because it was a balanced diet.
More & more they are discovering that many fats are important to our health, so cut way back but don't cut them out 100%.

just burn more calories than you eat. so keep a record of how many calories you eat in one day, and find an exercise that works for you, walking's probably the easiest and most effective way to lose weight. you dont have to eat vegetables at all to lose weight, people just eat them when dieting because there so low cal and have vitamins.

Exercise daily and eat fewer calories. (that doesn't mean just eating veggies) You really can't lose that much weight without doing both exercise and eating less. Its so simple but that doesn't mean its always easy. However, if you up your exercise, you can still eat the foods you love just use portion control.

eating healthy doesn't mean limiting yourself to veggies! you have access to everything on the food pyramid. however, moderation is key. and of course, limiting yourself in a few particular areas as well. meat actually plays a very important part in losing weight. it provides protein which will help you gain lean muscle tissue. don't cut out carbs in your life. we still want to eat whole grain breads and pasta.
