My two year old has been tube feed due to adversion to eating caused by severe reflux. Now that she is older she can eat just about anything the problem is getting her to eat and drink enough. I was wondering if anyone has suggestions on how to get her to realize that you must eat and drink by mouth to survive? I don't know if I should stop tube feeding her for a couple of days to let her realize that tube feedings are not a fact of life.

since she was not accustomed to eating why not have her taste savory foods--jellatin, icings, but not really having her to eat but to taste the food or drink. somehow it could stimulate appetite. prepare foods that are attractive to the eyes, children loves color. it takes a lot of patience as a parent for children this age. their concept of life and death is not that clear as adults do have. instead have her realize that food is good and you yourself enjoys food. praise her for every achievement in eating food. reward her with favorite stuff, or a star in her hand or stick a favorite cartoon sticker on her shirt.
try to bring a kid her age at your house, a little competition is sometimes a big help. make her her friend. but don't compare her with the other, just support your kid.
try to ask help with her doctor. our answers won't be enough here.

Eat in a table with the whole family that way she could observe how everyone else is eating. she'll get used to it. It'll take some time since she's been dependant of the tube so be patient and don't lose temper! =) good luck

Two year olds are often finiky eaters. And what may not seem like a good intake to you may be enough for her little body. I am sure she will eat when she is hungary. And also if she can eat regular foods why is she still getting tube fed at all?

I would talk to her doctor before removing the tube. It does not take long for a child to become dehydrated.

Perhaps it would help to teach her by example. You give yourself a bite of food, then you give her a bite. When everyone sits down at the table for dinner, she sits there with you and eats just like you do. Just tell her that this is how we eat.

Check with her doctor, but i was always told that kids won't starve themselves. However, you have a different situation. But i think it might apply. Don't force her to eat anything, but make it fun and interesting. Give her lots of praises when she does eat, make it a really big deal!

As the mother of a four year old, don't worry, keep her happy and comfortable. As she matures she will want to do things that others do and it will resolve itself. Don't push change on her, just make her feel safe secure and comforted. She will normally strive toward independence, in her own time.
Of course you want the best for her and your love and comforting support are it. Relax, it will be the best thing for both of you. :)

A question like this needs to be answered by a pediatrician.
