Absolutely no point! But as an ex-smoker, I can tell you it is just as much a psychological addiction as it is a physical one.
Soon after giving up, you feel kinda empty in a lot of situations where, ordinarily, you would have lit up. Like standing at the train station waiting for it to come, or after eating a meal, or doing all sorts or things. Smoking a cigarette somehow became grafted on to those actions as a natural extension of them, and you'd find yourself smoking without even thinking about it.
It may sound crazy to those who've never smoked, but to those who have I bet it's very familiar.

I smoke, but it is hard to stop. I started as a kid to impress a girl that was smoking. I hate smoking but the cigarette makers keep putting more nicotine in the cigarettes to make it even harder to quit.

liking it...thinking its cool, because one started early and didnt know it is addictive....liking the smell of it,
but that's when you're into it. I'm not into it anymore, and when I look at people smoke now, I wonder whats the point in in- and exhaling poison all the time. also I was highly addicted (2 packs a day) so it's even more stupid.
PS: i stopped with the patches after 17 years.

People start smoking for the "nicotine high" ,but once they get addicted they have a hard time quitting. The high occurs only when you are first starting and the body quickly adjusts and it does very little, except make your cravings subside.

personally, i don't think there is one. people do it for different reasons, stress, peer pressure to look or be cool when you are young, and then by the time you are older and know better, you can't quit because you are hooked. i don't see any positive benefit from it at all, and it's a big waste of money.

Looks sophisticated, smells and tastes good, and slams a lot of nicotine suddenly into the brain.
