Dude...you can't GROW an afro if you have straight hair.
Call the salon and ask if they have blue or red rods..otherwise settle for pink. Get your hair cut the same lenghth all over and then get the perm. This will get you your "afro".

I bet your straight hair is really nice...Why don't you experiment with color instead?

so, you have straight hair and desire an afro? Get a perm....maybe alternating big rods with small rods, then use some shine oil and tease it out and pick out the smaller curls?? Just an idea...you may have experiment with rod size. For hair that curls easily, use an acid wave and hair that is hard to hold a curl, use an alkaline wave. And take color-treated hair into consideration too.

It won't grow on its own. You have to get a perm or use little tight rollers with gel and spray your hair after you take the rollers out.

you have to get a tight perm...with pink rods...you can use blue and red if your hair is really short....but otherwise its going to make your hair nappy frizzy..unless that what you are looking for?
