I have a better idea. Look up Overeaters Anonymous in the phone book, and go to a meeting. It's the same basic 12-step program as Alcoholics Anonymous for people with eating disorders. I lost 140 pounds over a two-year period with them.

That I gained it all back much later is not their fault. I stopped going to meetings when I fell in love with a skinny man who simply could not handle my talking about my program; it made him unable to eat!

Feel free to use me as your bad example if you want, but do deal with this problem before it is necessary to take such drastic measures as surgery. I once met a man who had gastric bypass, and he was a terrible mess, physically and emotionally. He smelled terrible all the time, and he had baggy skin that looked like an extra suit of clothes. He calmly sat down in my kitchen and ate a quart of ice cream, then went and smelled up my bathroom "getting rid of it" only a few minutes later. It was pathetic; as pathetic as a bulimic girl.

Gastric bypass should be your last option. If you only lose 2 lbs in a month, then you either have the wrong diet plan for you or you don't have the right weight loss coach. I used to weigh 300 lbs, and tried every diet there is out there, could lose the weight, but could never keep it off. I found a weight loss plan called Shapeworks, I lost 95 lbs in 8 months and have kept it off for over 5 years now. With the program, I also got a great coach who helped me every step of the way. They're just getting long term data on the effects of Gastric bypass now, and it's not looking good. Too many people are experiencing negative effects of surgeries gone bad or continuing to overeat with a dramatically smaller stomach.

Getting friends that will help you stick with a diet plan is your best option. Remember that each meal is a choice and that no quick fix is a long term solution.

most doctors won't do gastroplasty unless you fit certain criteria. you have to be morbidly obese, which you may be, but usually diabetes or other weight caused illnesses are looked at too. you don't say where in NY you are, but i used to work at a hospital that did those. you have to go to meetings and counseling, and they discuss other options with you also, and help you stay on track after the surgery, if that's how you decide to go. University Hospital and the main number is 315-464-5540. if you aren't in the syracuse area, maybe they can help you find someone in your area. good luck!

Get a good dietician first, you might just not fully understand nutrician. You should have a doctor make sure you don't have a thyroid condition too. If you get the surgery, but have not learned how to eat properly, you will only gain after surgery. For now, cut out all sugary sodas, juices etc, switch to skim milk, watch your portions, stay away from all fast/convenience foods. Please feel free to contact me for more too, don't get discouraged, you CAN do this!

Well, first of all! You have to sit down, relax and focus on the most important changes you are willing to change in your life! Contact a nutrionist and have him/her help you with making a table of some sort (dieting and excercising) You must be mentally ready to want to be able to change ! SERIOUSLY! Good luck and avoid any kind of surgery!

surgery should be your absolute last option, if your only losing 2lbs in a month, your not dieting right, get a nutrionist and dietician to help you. you should be losing at least a pound a day dieting at your weight.
