I have a gallon of carmel sauce & want to use it for carmel apples but am not sue how to thinken it. I heard add powered sugar.

I don;t think it is possible... usually for carmel apples you use the Kraft Caramels ( little squares wrapped in plastic) and slowly melt that down then dip your apples.
They only thing i can think of with the Caramel for ice cream is to add more sugar but it seems like a hell of alot of work and you may be better off making the caramel from scratch... or again using the Kraft kind.

Generally stuff like that gets thinner the hotter it is, and thicker the more it cools. If this is runny while in the can, I haven't a clue. Adding more powdered sugar sounds like it might create a mess.

One other idea, chill the apples until they are really cold, make sure they are dry, and dip into caramel, then refrigerate.
