I think anything directly on the bone is a little more painful but the outline is worst. The shadowing is about half of that. After a while it just gets numb.

Funny, I was reading through the answers and some people have felt much pain on the wrist- I have a half sleeve and that hurt quite a bit when he went towards the inner part of my arm. Hurt a lot. The ones on my wrists didn't even compare. I was all ready for the pain, but it wasn't bad at all- no kidding. The one on my hip bone was a bit more sensitive though. The bone area hurt a bit and towards the middle of my body hurt more. But wrists are hard to cover up. Now that I'm looking at "real" jobs it's hard to get one when you have tats that are hard to cover- people will see the wrists all the time and then you have the same damn conversation- "wow, did that hurt? What does it mean to you?" Sorry, venting a little bit.... I'd go with hip!

Yes, typically the closer you get to bone, the more it'll hurt. Also, getting near sensitive spots (like armpits when you're tattooing your back) hurts a lot.

Of course, it won't kill you, and in the end, the beautiful piece of artwork is worth it!

I have many tattoos, including a sleeve...and I must admit, the wrists were definitly a little more sensitive...I wouldnt say painful...just sensitive. But love is pain...and i love tattoos...it was well worth it!

I got one on my wrist and it didn't hurt very badly at all. Just felt like somebody was scratching me over and over in the same spot. Definitely tolerable.

I have a fairy on my stomach/hip. It hurt alot at first but it is a bearable pain. I also have my fathers enitial on my inner wrist. Pain was next to nil, I hardly noticed it.

Sure does!! Closer to the bone, the worse the pain.
Ribs and feet are the absolute worst!
