man, I just got back from afghanistan, and if you don't know the difference by now, not to mention that you sound like you don't already have med experience, please don't go medical. this isn't a game when you find yourself looking at the bloody stump of your buddy that just got hit by an IED.

As far as the training aspect, it makes no difference whether you are active or reserve, the training is the same. The practical experience, tho, is something different. On active duty, you will spend more time doing your job. The reserves are just one weekend a month/2 weeks a year (unless deployed). Of course, in the reserves you may be able to do your MOS in the civilian world, too.
As far as which is the best branch...that is a choice that YOU will have to make. Check out each branch and see who will GUARANTEE IN WRITING, that you will get a specific job.
I know that the US Army (active, reserve, and guard) will guarantee your job in writing. You just have to qualify for the position and a position has to be available.
Thanks for thinking of us, and your future. Good luck

I was active for little over 8 years than went NG. I am sure it has changed since the Iraq war, but I was not impressed with the training, or the equipment. Active duty is where you will find the better training and the newest equipment. Yes, the MOS training is the same but the active duty units aren't the same as NG units.
Good luck, and congrats on joining up.

I am a SGT in the Army and the thing is that the training that you get is the same, the only differance for you is wheather you want to to live a life in a career in active duty or do you want to be a civilian as well and live your life and do the military thing every now and then. And even if you want to go active after you are in the Guard you can.

I would go active duty. Also, I would try the USAF. They ave the best health care system of all branches.

it depends on what you want to do. if you want to go to school at the same time, go reserves/ng. if not, go active. also play into effect how strong your ties are to home. your family, your friends, etc.
if you don't like being reserves/ng, you can always activate. it's much more difficult to go the other way.
kudos to you for taking time to think about it.
