There is dna testing, but it is not availble to the general public..the only public use of DNA is through AKC, to make certain that the offspring of a sire, are indeed his offspring..It is about $100....but they will only do it to match parent and sibling..can't do it for dogs of unknown parentage...
The science community is doing breed DNA testing, but only for research, as of now..

If you post a pic of him, I'm betting that some of us that have studied all breeds can help you out..

There is genetic testing for dogs, mainly to determine parentage. Say you have a puppy, and you own the mother and two male dogs. Not sure which male is the sire, take DNA samples from the males, and the DNA sample from the puppies and send it in. This wouldn't work for a stray dog. Of course you know who the dam is, but dogs can have litters sired by multiple male dogs. So, even if the pound knew that "such and such dog" came in with your puppy's mother, that doesn't mean he's definitely the father.
It really doesn't matter, either. She's your puppy, you love her, and that's the important part.

There is genetic testing to determine if a dog is carrying certain genes which might cause disease or malformties to pups as they get older, if the dog is bred, but there is no such testing to determine a dog's breed.

Even if there were such test, can you image how expensive it would be? The costs to determine how breeds a dog may come from would most likely be close to insurmountable unless you were Bill Gates.

Basically, your dog is pretty much whatever breeds you want him to be :-)

I'm a Vet Tech, please take it from me, there is no way to determine breed from DNA. Sorry.
Many companies will charge you hundreds and tell you nothing. It's a scam.
It doesn't matter what her breed is, she's your dog. That's her breed. Assign her a breed and stick with it. It doesn't matter.

you can but it would be way expensive, and pointless if you had that much money you could buy a purebred dog lol
