I had an IV and gas. I did not get sick to my stomach. I did have to eat soft food like ice cream, jello and milkshakes. It did not bother the holes. The holes heal in about 2 weeks. You will have stitches to close the holes. I did not have bleeding afterwards, but my face did swell up and turn black and blue. The swelling and bruising lasted about a week. I had strong pain pills (Vicodin) to take after the surgery. I had all four of my wisdom teeth taken out at the same time. It was painful, but the nice thing is that they don't come back any more!

I got the drugs through gas. I think that's fairly standard. They may do something different, though.
When you're done, you might be nauseous from all the medication they give you. Yes, food might go down into the holes from your wisdom teeth, but it doesn't stay there. You have to rinse with medicated mouthwash a lot and gently use this water thing to clean the holes out, if they're not sutured shut. Also, it will bleed a bit the first day or two. I remember a lot of blood at first and then it let up.
When I got mine removed, I talked to a lot of people about it... some people have a lot of pain and are miserable for weeks, and other people are fine right away. Remember that everyone's experiences are different!

I would say defintily ask your dentist or orthodontist if you have any questions, they will have the best answers for you. My experience wasnt all that great (when is surgery pleasent anyways?!) I got my wisdom teeth out when I was around 16.
I lived in a small town so we had a bit of a drive to get to the office and I was really nervous. The put me under with an IV, and once the needle was in, I was supposed to count back from 10 until I fell asleep.. I think I got to about 9 and I was out like a light....(And the dentist may ask you what you prefer, gas or IV, it really makes no real difference I was in a small town so all we had was IV)
And so the surgery went as planned for me, no waking up in the middle or anything, but I did find out that instead of 4 wisdom teeth that normal people have, I had 8! The dentist couldnt get the last one because it was imbedded in my jaw, so I stil have one up there somewheres :)
As for the blood thing, I can tell you my horror story. Since mine was so invasive, I had deep incisions. On the way home, I started bleeding very intensly. I had to call 911 and go to the emergency... but this will not happen to you most likely! They pack your mouth with gauze (on top not in the cut) that you can take out after about 12 hours, and they also stitch the incision shut. There is no way that food could get in there, unless you were chewing it in there anyways. Also, for about 12 hours afterwards your face swells and you just want to drink water or other liquids until the next morning. Take a tylenol 3 and hit the sack!
You wont get sick from the blood because its just as if you get a cut on your arm or leg, aftet they stitch it, you most likely wont bleed more than a tiny bit. (Even when I was bleeding a lot, I never got sick from it) No, you shouldnt bleed after surgery is over.
Well, again, ask your dentist, you sound nervous! Be well informed, it helps. Also, a pack of frozen peas on the side of your face does wonders afterwards. :)
Best of luck!!!

How old are you? To think that jello or ice cream eaten will go into the holes where your wisdom tooth once was, is silly, dear.
You don't get put to sleep. You will be given a shot, a local anesthetic to numb the area. You won't feel the pain when they take out your teeth, only slight discomfort.
The blood that comes out during the process is going to be sucked into a tiny hose that the dental assistant will leave in your mouth. Any bleeding afterward will be stopped by a cotton.
Best that you have them done.

When I had my wisdom teeth removed, they started an IV and knocked me out.
I was nauseated because I swallowed some blood and they gave me an emesis basin so I could vomit
You will probably wake up with some guaze in your mouth to put pressure on the holes and soak up the blood. You will bleed, but not a whole lot.
Yeah some liquid goes into the holes, but it doesnt bother anything.

I had one pulled and I bled alot... it did make me sick. They they do bleed for a few hours after surgery.. I dont know what they use to put you out.. But I would recommend not doing that unless you are in a hospital... The risks are great unless you know you respond well to being knocked out. In a dentists office they have no way of helping you if you had trouble. I has just numb and didn't feel anything.

Its Gas you'll be out in like 5 seconds. A little blood but they put gauze in your mouth. yes the ice cream will get in there but the have you rinse with warm water maybe even salt water and it feels good and you get good pain killers and take lots of ibuprofen. Eat lots of jello chicken soup ice cream any kind of creamy soup. It does hurt i wont lie.

where I live, wisdom teeth are usually extracted with an injection to numb the area. going under IV or gas seems total overkill and potentially dangerous.
there probably will not be a lot of blood.
the first day or two you may sense food going into the hole, but the gum soon covers it and toughens up.

How did that guy eat steak that night? Anyways, I remember taking a pill. No IV or Gas. I hurt so bad. I did not leave my room for three days. I had people visit me and I just told them to go away. That sucked!
Yours might be just as easy as eating a steak that night. Good Luck.

If you're getting knocked out, you may have both - gas and iv. This is a common approach. If you biteon the gaize as directed, you will not swallow that much blood. You will get detailed post-op instructions about what and when you can eat.
