How do you differentiate friendliness and attraction?

How would you behave differently when you are just being friendly or polite versus actually attracted to the person?

I met a guy and dated him for awhile. He called me Baby and that made me swoon. Then I realized that he called all women baby. Boy, was I disappointed.

To me attraction shows itself in more of a lust feelilng. The eye contact is like magic. We all long for that magic
