Italian Primitivo may be hard to find depending on where you live. If you want something domestic and closely related try some nice California Zinfandels. Seek out some stuff from Paso Robles (Central Coast) or from Livermore County and Amador County. You can find some nice jammy fruit with that back end of spice that you like from Primitivo. Make sure you look for coastal Zins, because the stuff from inland (like Lodi) will big HUGE and peppery.
